Giamatti owned this movie

This is the first film that really let him shine and he did. After this film I started looking for other films he was in and always found him to be the best. Now he is getting some real hefty roles, like John Adams, and he is proving his worth all over again. Years after seeing this film, the only guy I remember clearly is Paul Giamatti. Of course, there is also Maria Bello's singing, which was damn fine.

I agree Giamatti ruled in this flick. He was also awesome as Pig Vomit in Private Parts.

Yes, this was a great movie, despite most critics trashing it.

Giamatti's really been a great character actor in his earlier roles. I liked his performance in The Negotiator and that other film with Frankie Muniz about stealing his idea--the title escapes me and I'm too lazy to look it up. ^_^

This movie was the first time I really took notice of Paul Giamatti and Maria Bello. Looking up their names and filing them under "must watch every movie with them from now on".

I think Duets is underrated on imdb and I think it definitely pushed those two actors to more roles and better careers.

Giamatti has a sweet part (it's every actor's dream to go totally nuts) but he absolutely delivers! Maria Bello's character sour and sweet temperament is just great too. Plus she is absolutely stunning.

Giamatti's slow descent to full psychosis is delicious. Bello's stoic vulnerability. The way she sing "I Can't Make You Love Me" is my favorite in this film. And I've been a Newshead for years.

Love this film!

If you like Giamatti (I love him....I think he's always great), you MUST see him in "American Splendor". He pulls a Marlon Brando in that movie....he's pure genius. The whole film is very inventive, and Hope Davis is great as well.

Since they actually show you the real people, you can see how both Giamatti and the guy who played his best friend absolutely mirrored them in their performances. Giamatti is one of those actors who can just almost literally disappear into his character and go from the ridiculous to the sublime (Pekar to Adams) and make you believe whatever he does. But my favorite role of his is Miles in Sideways, probably because Miles reminds me so much of myself. I probably shouldn't admit that.

He is a terrific actor, no doubt. And I agree, he disappears into his roles. I think that is about the highest compliment that an actor can receive. I've always thought that way about Johnny Depp, as well. He becomes unrecognizable.

Agree 100%, always loved the guy, but his performance of Try a Little Tenderness shot my respect for his talent to a whole new level.
