A great movie you haven't seen...

While listening to Internet Radio, the song "Cruisin'" (a remake of an old Smokey Robinson song) came on. Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis sang it and the song originated from this movie.

A few years ago, when my wife said she rented a movie called 'Duets', three letters entered my mind: W-T-F.

The title doesn't exactly scream engaging movie. However, I gotta tell you, I loved it!

From the start, you'll find yourself immersed into the lives of several different, intriguing characters; all with one common thread: karaoke.

At the time, I only had a perception of what karaoke was. Watching this movie demonstrated that it was a lifestyle. For those few minutes you're on stage, you're a pop star, rock star, folk singer*...whatever. And whether you're good or bad, you'll always get applause at the end; sans judgment.

The soundtrack for the movie is great and, as you might guess, there's quite a few, enjoyable musical moments during it.

And then there's the storyline. Someone's already posted a long dissertation of the movie, so I wont' revisit it. You just have to understand that it's very entertaining.

If you've come to this thread via the profile from the actors in 'Duets', then I'd highly recommend you watch it. There is no bad acting. Everyone plays their part well (with Paul Giamatti's character being my favorite).

It's very good! Hell, it might even give you the courage to try it yourself sometime ;)

*There is no folk singing in this movie.

I agree! I loved this movie and thought it deserved a higher rating! I am glad someone agrees with my point of view so precisely.

Old thread...but I agree too.

Couldn't agree more!

Awesome little flick all around!

On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?

One of my favorite movies just put in the DVD tonight. The extras are also exceptional.

I was working with my laptop and this played on background and it sucked hard. Didn't turn it off though, wanted to torture myself little bit more and it somehow increased my productivity. Dull, million plot lines, karaoke hustlers and outlaws (what?). How Giamatti turned up in this and Paltrow - beyond me.
