Who sings?

I know these people definitely sing their own music:
Gwyneth
Huey Louis
Paul G

Andre Braugher DOES NOT sing for himself; They mention that in the extra features.

Does Maria Bello Sing for herself?

reply

I'm pretty sure Maria Bello does sing for herself...she's really good!

Actually, Maria Bello does not have a great voice. But, she just took a few lessons for the filming of the movie (I watched a little documentary), so I'd say she did pretty well for such a small amount of training.

I thought the biggest surprise, and the best voice for not being a professional, was Gwenyth Paltrow (I am sure I spelled that wrong). She amazed me with her voice, which was so right on and amazing with Huey Lewis. She earned my respect right then and there.

I just loved the song - Cruisin
Can anyone recommend similar songs please... I'll really appreciate it !
Thanks !

haha, I think Michael Buble sings his own music....(he's one of the finale singers)

Check here - http://imdb.com/title/tt0134630/soundtrack

Soundtrack listing on the left bar for every movie tells you writer, performer, producer, etc - whatever is available.

Also I was pleasantly surprised when I heard and saw Michael Buble in this. And here I only got it to watch Huey Baby.

Never look down on anybody unless you are helping him up.

Actually, the man who sings for Andre Brauhger is named Arnold McCuller- He's been a James Taylor back-up man for years and he's incredible live. Supposedly, he released an album about the time that this movie came out, but I could never find a copy, sadly.

reply

Andre Braugher and Arnold McCuller's singing voices were actually blended together to make the singing voice of Reggie Kane, so they both had equal parts in making the character's exceptional voice.

If I get the soundtrack album, will it comke with all the dialogue or have they cut that out - like the police talkin durin try a little tenderness...?

reply

I got it. On ebay. It probably shows up there periodically.

Been a long time since I saw "The making of Duets" LOL but from what I remember they wanted everyone to do their own singing when possible, hence Maria Bello did do her own singing. She also talked about how she was a waitress in a bar in her youth and would get up there and do karaoke herself, if memory serves.

Personally, I think she was terrible, compared to everyone else, anyway. Off key and no emotion in her singing, but then she is an actress and a damn good one, not a singer. What ruined it for me was how the audience would go crazy at her singing, especially the last one by Eurithmics. It was ok, but not at all worth the uproarious applause it got. But I guess that is why movies ARE
movies LOL!!!!!

"Why NOT?!"

Frankly, I think they should have dubbed over Maria Bello's singing voice, as well. She was AWFUL, in my honest opinion. She completely butchered a classic Bonnie Rait song! Just awful......

Come on, it's karaoke. Have you ever really seen them? She was typical of the better singers.

Yes she certainly did butcher it, and if you'd heard Bonnie Raitt's beautiful rendition of this song you could see why Ms Bello's "version" of it is just awful. Her phrasing was dismal, and she completely dismantled the emotional impact of this lovely ballad.

She should never sing again after such a travesty.

From your comments, it would seem that most of you have never actually "done" karaoke. If you want someone to sound like a pro, you hire a pro. Problem is, most people who win local karaoke contests don't sound like pros. Mario Bello sounded pretty much like her character was supposed to and she, more than any of the others, sounded like what she was...a normal person who could carry a tune pretty well. This is precisely the type you will hear most nights at your local bar. I found her more believable than most of the characters.

Anyway, love the film! Something to look for: Brent Butt from "Corner Gas" as the hotel clerk who gets in Paul's way.

I just read on a gossip blog that Lisa Marie Presley is uncredited for her singing in this movie - allegedly Gwyneth Paltrow's part is dubbed with LMP's voice. This is disappointing to me as I love "Cruisin" with Huey Lewis, but since I read it on a gossip blog I'm not sure how much validity this claim holds.

reply

Gwenyth did her own singing. It's not dubbed. If you hear anything she sang since (Glee is a good example) it is her voice
