Detention (1998/1), or USA Title: Learning Curve

I loved this movie! I was under the belief that this movie was a thriller and that it would end up being another "slasher" film. I was wrong. Hats off to John Davies performance for his excellent portrayal of a teacher who's only real crime was caring for the future of these teens!

I caught this on DVD and thought it was going to be a slasher type movie but all in all this movie held it's own perfectly. The movie starts out alright and is a tad slow for a bit of the film making you think it will go one direction or another BUT then it smacks you in the face - I love all the twists and turns plus the dark comedy going on in all of it. It doesn't give you the Hollywood ending that you expect either way. I love the way it was portrayed and everyone did their best for this movie. It is definitely a sleeper and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a film with a different tone to it. Hats off to everyone involved with this production.

"all this movie held it's own perfectly"

I would like to agree with this comment. I loved the film myself.

BUT - once again I have been greatly upset by the use of "it's" where "its" was appropriate. Am I alone in getting hot under the collar whenever I come across this common error? There are times when I feel it is (it's) ruining my life!

i enjoyed this movie also, but i admit i'm slightly biased. i went to- and was still in at the time- the high school used in the story. many scenes were even filmed at the town square.

I didn't know what to expect and I was delightfully surprised. I loooooooooooooved! this movie. The only part I kind of question is why the art teacher put up with such extreme abuse without trying to get the students punished appropriately.

Other than that, the movie was golden. Two thumbs up.

Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.
