Outtakes were in original cut

I saw this film @ SXSW 1998(?) and was completely floored by how shockingly funny it was. Due to it's 2 hour length of the film and a Q&A following the screening, I was hesitant to see it because it would cut into screenings of other films. However, I found myself wanting to watch more, and could have stayed all day discussing the fact that Anderson could barely afford the rights to "Mickey". FYI, the outtakes on the DVD were on the original cut and their ommissions definitely takes away from the film's shock and impact especially after the "capture". Thanks.

I wish they had worked in the scenes when the kids first got out of the cage. Specifically,

1) The scene when the blond girl is sitting by the red bell

2) The scene when they are walking with the red journals down the path. At first, the "bad boy" takes a different path, then decides to join the other kids after all.

Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.

I watched the movie on Netflix instant view and these scenes were not in the it. I wish they had included them. What version of the movie are these on? The DVD? BluRay? I'd like to either see them someday, or if you can tell me more about them, that would be cool.

Interesting thread.

I was about to say I'm really shocked that a seemingly small budget indie flick would play a song like "Mickey" (the original verison, none the less) becuase songs tend to cost a lot to use in films and I would imagine a monster hit like that can't be cheap. It's funny that it never really gets mentioned in the movie, though....maybe they didn't know for sure they would get the rights to it.

!Possible spoilers!

It's a really good dark comedy although at times I thought it got to dark (the killing of Joey but then of course...). Had there not be the excessive full frontal and mostly male nudity (of students we assume are in high school), it probably could have gone mainstream. It's very smart but not that "indie". The acting is very good (although orginally I thought the lead seemed to likable and nice to be psycho but he played it well because he didn't go scary and didn't need to).
