Videos like "Two Guys One Hammer" and Destroying Daisy" (or something to that effect) have been uploaded onto the web since this movie. Thankfully, the people behind these videos are often found out and punished.
shareYou and I appear to be having a different conversation. He claimed there are "100s" of snuff videos on the web. While I'm sure there are snuff videos in the darkest corner of the web, I'm curious what makes him think there are so many readily available; and how he knows this.

As for the OP saying there are thousands, that’s either hyperbole or it’s possible he is referring to the multiple death videos on the internet (Taliban beheadings, accidents, etc.) which are often called snuff films when it’s not quite accurate.
Someone being murdered on camera is the very definition of a snuff film. Some sicario beheading a rival falls under that category.
The definition of a snuff film is when someone is killed on camera for the purpose of distributing the film. Footage of people dying has been around for a long time.

shareBecause ISIS does that as an act of terrorism and wants it to be seen without the desire to charge people money to see it. A snuff film is produced for monetary purposes and isn't usually widespread since the police would likely shut down the operation.
shareReddit is one of the largest websites on the internet, and not long ago one of their largest subreddits called WatchPeopleDie. Several videos of people dying were posted there every single day, and plenty of those videos were of poor schlubs getting executed. r/watchpeopledie is gone, but All those videos are still out there (and more being added every day), but you have to look a touch harder to find them.
The film also somewhat predicted the modern day computer technology with how Cage used his laptop to duplicate the film etc.
