DVD - Seasons 2,3 and 4?

I remember flicking through the channels one afternoon and I came across VIP and loved it as soon as I saw it!! I live in the UK and it was being shown on this network called Bravo but it suddenly ended and I though it was such a waste that it wasn't being shown again or on DVD! This happened about 3-4 years ago and imagine my suprise when I hear VIP is on DVD! Anways, I am happy with the Season One DVD but does anyone know of any plans to release the other seasons on DVD?

PS = For those of you in the UK - I e-mailed Bravo and they said they haven't picked up the rights to show it anymore!! Oh well - at least we have the DVD!!!

In the US and Canada, it is easy to get. Most major entertainment stores should have it, as well as larger stores like Wal-Mart and Target. You can also order it online from any online DVD retailer like amazon.com.

For those of us around the world, it is harder to get. Sony only released the DVD in North America, so you will have to order it from an American retailer. I ordered it from amazon.com, and they are great for international shipping. Hope this helps!

I'm hoping this will eventually get released in Germany, I bet it was a semi-hit there just like Baywatch. But then again, it would have been released by now.

reply

Baywatch was a big hit in Germany because David Hassellhoff was a huge star there. I have all 11 seasons from Amazon.de, the German version of Amazon.com. Only five of them feature Pamela Anderson.

Of course I love VIP too and would immediately buy the rest of the DVDs as soon as they become available, as I did with season one. I was really sorry to hear about Pamela Anderson's health problems; this was new information for me. I really wish her well.

If you want VIP seasons 2 - 4 released, go to TVShowsOnDVD.com and vote! It's completely free, and has worked for other shows, for example, "Birds of Prey."

Voting is crap though.Just put out the damm season 2 DVD man. I hate *beep*
This is stupid other shows has all there seasons out so quick but was the freakng deal with this show I know the stupid has something to do with it,but maybe there's some legal problems getting this thing out.I thought season3 should of been out by now.Or this my never come out at all

reply

I agree... but at least there's one season out. Think of those shows that are not likely to ever be on DVD (one that springs to mind, since I was discussing it recently, is the awesome 90's Untouchables series with William Forsythe).

That said, I'd buy the later seasons of VIP in a heartbeat... I watched some of it on TV back when it first ran, but it was the S1 DVD that made me really love this show!

reply

Yeah, this show was really good too,and fun to watch. The 90's was Pam Anderson era of big boobs and blonde, and sex tape too.But now it's time to watch pam of old and her show VIP was it wasn't her being a bad arse like some women on action show and that's was good about the show. And now we want the second season dvd to now and it's hard to get my thinking is that there a problem with getting this out I think is a legal problem with producers and everyone who made money from the show because on dvd there's more money too from fan buying this boxset. So many show that are year ago like the 60's,70's and 80's are on dvd in stores or buy from internet.I hope they'll get this out soon hopefully 2009 or 2010.But we should just keep looking on the internet we just might find it.

I'm a fan of VIP as much as you guys, but you got to see the reality of the situation here, regarding the future DVD releases of the remaining three seasons of VIP. It seems that the first season of VIP on DVD didn't sell as well as Sony/Columbia Home Video expected, even with the apparent popularity of Pamela Anderson. But the same thing happened with Pam's other TV shows, STACKED and even BAYWATCH which had only it's first three seasons released on DVD here in the US only while in the rest of the world, all 11 seasons of BAYWATCH have been released on DVD overseas. That's why Columbia has apparently hold off on any plans to release the other seasons of VIP. But that's the same thing they did with CHARLIE'S ANGELS in which the studio only released the first two seasons of the show to promote the CHARLIE ANGEL'S films with Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu & Drew Barrymore. But when they stopped making any more CHARLIE'S ANGELS films, then Columbia didn't release the remaining three seasons of the show until this year. So there might be hope , if enough fans of the show email Sony/Columbia Home Video or vote on TV Shows On DVD for their release, it might happen.

I honestly just don't see why it's going to not be worth putting the rest of the eps on "bare bones" DVD sets (or one big set). Pam certainly has fans, and there's a LOT crappier shows (and movies) on DVD already. Sure, it's not as annoying as something like Jeremiah (ONLY two seasons exist, and only the first released!) but VIP would surely make its money back on cheap DVD releases? (interesting to know Baywatch, which I thought was a big hit in its day in the US, is not all on DVD there).

reply

But once again, everything depends on public demand for these shows on DVD and timing, when they are released on DVD. If VIP or Baywatch would have been released on video during it's heyday and zenith of it's popularity, they would have sold better. But they were released many years after the shows ended and the popularity waned after the years. Sometimes the studios got to take advantage of the moment of the popularity of TV show. It's so very rare that a TV show remain so popular after it's original trasmission, that it becomes a hit again when it's released on video.

reply

Agreed, but (for example), I saw a recent release of 90210 on DVD the other day in a store here in Australia. Sure, it was "huge" in it's day, but surely not known as well as even Baywatch these days?

I would say in my honest and sincere opinion that both "Baywatch" and Beverly Hills 91201" were equally popular in the 1990's but that each show appealed to their respective and distintive audiences around the world.

I've done my voting for the remaining seasons on DVD. Sony needs to promote the heck out of it (use Pamela Anderson's stint on Dancing With the Stars: "From the star of V.I.P.!"). Or maybe a studio like Shout! Factory can purchase the rights if Sony is willing to sell. Where are the Facebook/MySpace/Twitter/etc. fan/group pages???
