Better than The Office

This program when it was on tv if i remember right was given a late slot i think if it had been in the 2030 or 2100 slot it would have been more popular than the office. Why isnt anyone talking about this show? its brilliant

reply

I agree that this show is a brilliant creation and is much, much better than the office. The one thing that is strange though is that nobody in operation good guys is famous, the only thing I've ever seen with them in is love honour and obey which has everyone from series 3 in it.

"De Sade! Get your bloody boat here now."

reply

Yes i like Love Honour And Obey Most of the actors fron good guys were also in Final Cut

reply

Ah i haven't seen final cut yet, is it better than love honour and obey?

reply

No i prefer LHAO but its still a good film well worth watching.

reply

Cheers. I was asking because I had to make a split second decision the other day to buy LHAO or FC and i picked LHAO i was just wondering if i had made the right decision.

Both Burdis' have been on TV consistently for the past 20 years, so I'd guess they were moderately famous, same for Perry Benson too.

"...I agree that this show is a brilliant creation and is much, much better than the office."

I often wondered where David Brent got his comical 'shrugs' from; watch the episode with Johnny Lee Miller and Jude Law, you see DI Beach make exactly the same face when he fits up the con in the identity parade, he says something like "We all know who did it....."

Yes sorry about the famous statment I made, considering Perry Benson has starred in such things as Scum and You Rang m'lord Ray & Mark Burdis have also starred in an equal amount of successful things. I am wondering if anyone has the operation good guys book, I myself have the CD and the DVD but I have yet to buy the book if anyone owns it please can you tell me what its like and where you got it from.

reply

I wonder what happened to everyone else? Ray has been in a few things on TV since, ManChild and The Bill (there's a gag there, if you watch Extras), Mark does the advert for the AA with the Volvo, but I haven't seen Dominic/Bill/John in anything else since.

There's also a moment where Ash gives Beach a massage at his desk while the camera is on them. This scene was plagiarised by Gervais and Crook in an episode of The Office.

I'm surprised I've never heard Gervais or Merchant mention OGG, it's clearly had some kind of influence on their work.

Within OGG they reguarly had minor celebs appearing, every episode in series 3 I think. Most of them were insulted by Beach or Ash or were made out to be completely mad - see Sean Pertwee as The Leader. It looks like Gervais and Merchant have now taken this idea and made a completely new show out of it with Extras.

Better than The Office? Maybe. Depends how bizarre you like your characters I guess. Beach and Brent are similar, but where The Office errs towards realism (well, sort of) Good Guys definitely opts for the more surreal approach.
Personally I find the weird insanity of Good Guys more appealing than the unsettling and uncomfortable humour often used in The Office.

I can see similarities between the two shows. Notably the fake docu-soap format and the Brent/Keenan Beach/Ash relationships, but beyond the obvious I don't think it runs that deep.

Ray Burdiss is also really good in the mid life crisis comedy Manchild (?) with Tony Head Don Warrington and Nigel Havers. Despite the other three being more familiar stars he was the funniest character of the four.

The most familiar face, due to his Eastedners role, Gary Beadle also did another great comedy cop turn in Thives Like Us with David Braddely.
