Loved the first line to this film

Loved the first line to this movie

If I could just go back... if I could rub everything out... starting with myself.

Its only the first line and it perfectly sets up this deeply sad, lonely, and very self loathing person most likely connected to his refusal deal with his sexuality.

I love this movie. Its so elegant in the way its written and directed but it also very deep.

I couldn't have said it any better. This movie makes you feel his utter isolation and aloneness. It was very sad.

Watching the movie a second time, I noticed how bizarre the song at the beginning was, if it were sung like that at a 1950's garden party.

A neat trick - heavy foreshadowing, but not heavy=handed because it comes so early, before the viewer has a chance to get their bearings.

It explains why Dickie's words hit Tom so hard in the boat scene.

I agree... This is definitely one of those movies that you want to go rewatch the first few minutes after you finish.
