Has held up very well over 17 years.

Saw this movie again this weekend. Last viewing was in 1999. The movie has held up remarkably well and was even better than I remembered.

The movie has held up remarkably well
I agree. It's also somehow...inoffensive? That's not quite the right word, but I've had it on in the background a lot lately, it's been playing on cable so much. It seems to be Jude Law movies -
They play this and Gattaca and oh whatever that one is where he pretends to be in a weird video game..and Ick The Holiday. That one I cannot run, even in the background.
I do like him in Gattaca; an entirely different genre but it has held up pretty well, also.

it gets better in the details with every brief viewing. Even without watching out the whole thing, it just gets better. Anthony Mangella was responsible for this brilliance and every move. it's really bittersweet. I don't know if we'll ever see movies like this again.

FYI: To "amountpastdue" --
I believe another IMDb poster attempted to correct you on the spelling of g ge Director's name. It is NOT Mangella --- It is MINGHELLA. It's listed right on the IMDb

You seem to be currently posting quite often about this Director and the film. So, if you are truly interested in commenting on
him, PLEASE at least spell
the guy's name correctly --
out of respect for the dead!
And, I mean that with the greatest respect for Minghella.

Agreed.

Gets better with every viewing! makes me wish I was in Italy circa 1959...

I was there in 2010. What a wonderful country! And seeing the Spanish Steps in Rome, and the different locations in
Venice brought back great memories!

😎

It's gotten better but that's not surprising; Anthony Minghella was a genius.

Agree just watched it again tonight and wow it really does hold up perfectly. Always forget how damn great it is. Doesn't feel dated at all

reply

I agree. It is a classic just like Deliverance, Godfather 1 & 2 and I like The Last of the Mohicans 1993.

I think it helps the fact that's a period piece set in Europe so it has an air of timelessness or other worldliness. I think what dates the movie is how young and skinny Matt Damon looks...
