Why are black characters drawn to look more West African?

Although characters of color are portrayed in redeeming roles in this movie and series, they tend to look dark with overt West African features. That is not reflective of African-Americans. Black people in America represent the true "Melting Pot." They have a cross-sections of hues, features and hair types. This reflects a mixture of racial heritage. I just wonder if the representation has a hidden agenda. Probably not, but I would like to explore it with the cartoon's creators.

West African's are under represented in cartoons, let them have their moment. They are a valid social and racial group.

English Language Anime: Dub it, don't pervert it.

why is race always an issue? god its just a cartoon, be happy theres black people in it and get over it.

reply

No, it's not just a cartoon. It is obvious you are not african american in the true sense of the word. Race is always an issue and we are responsible for the kids in this world to show them no matter what we love others. Be happy there's black people in it?......did you just step out of the 50's-60's?

IMDB is the best place to pull the race card for no apparent reason. EVERY forum has someone complaining about some little detail in a show or movie and labels it racist. I actually saw a thread on another forum that was complaining about a black nerd in a kids show and labeled the whole show racist. Wtf is wrong with these people?

reply

no, i didnt step out of the 50s-60s. i stepped out of a world where you stupid "african-americans" call each other *beep* and always whip out the race card. EFF OFF AND GET OVER YOURSELF.

locoboi435: You think THATS bad? I saw a topic shortly after the Garfield movie was released a few years back (not the newest one)and someone said THAT was racist.. The reason: Garfield had black stripes and his "owner" was white (as far as I can see, the character of Garfield is a law unto himself and pretty much does what he wants.)

Some people are just idiotic.

reply

It's funny. People say. About any movie. There aren't enough black people. But when they put them. Uh they is too black.

I've noticed this too. Everyone is so eager to pounce on something and call it racist. To the OP, I don't mean to sound harsh but I really DO think you should be grateful there are black characters in the cartoon (yes, CARTOON) at all. It's better than nothing, right? Cause no doubt you'd be having a reeeal b!tch-fest if that were the case.

Big Gay Al, it has recently come to our attention that you are gay.

Wow how pathetic you guys. Someone is serious about asking if a character looks African and everyone all of the sudden jumps him. Wow what a insult, you guys are so pathetic. I assume you have no time on your hands but to bash someone who is talking about africans. OOh lets all get insulted cause he said "African" ooh how insulting Two words for you guys "BACK OFF!!!!!!"

So I never noticed that some of them look African but oh well I never pay attention to that either. Never knew that.

I never find race topics good for a laugh.
I never thought Susie looked West African, heck I just saw her as a character with a personality that was friendly to the babies.
