Logan Act?
Does anybody know what Logan Act is and what punishment you become, if you break it?
shareAny citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply himself, or his agent, to any foreign government, or the agents thereof, for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.
Basically the US Government, and specifically the Executive Branch have sole authority to conduct foreign policy. Violating the act is a felony with up to 3 years in prison, though nobody has ever been prosecuted for it. GEN Devereaux may have violated the Logan Act by capturing the Sheik without authorization.
So might have Jimmy Carter in his missions to Cuba and the Middle East. That's the only case I've heard it used in relation to. ;)

The Act is constantly broken at the Bilderberg meetings.

The Logan Act is an obscure law passed in the 19th century and only used once in the 19th century. It does not prevent any citizen of the USA from talking to or dealing with foreign governments. It only prevents a person from negotiating on behalf of the USA without authority of the USA and only with a real, active enemy of the USA. It was passed in response to some guy trying to negotiate a peace deal with France without the authorization of the US government.
And the bilderbergs do not violate the Logan Act. Last time I checked, western european powers were not enemies of the USA, as defined by the Logan Act. Negotiating with said powers to make American business and citizens richer is not contrary to the will of the US government. Anyone who tells you so and so is in violation of the Logan Act simply doesn't know what he's talking about.
