This is a very good movie, but I didn't like the ending

"The Faculty" is a very good movie, with likeable and well-rounded characters, competent special effects, thrilling action and pulse-pounding suspense, but the ending was way too safe, in my opinion. I didn't like how the alien-infested characters who died rose back from the dead their normal selves again after the queen was defeated. It would've been bolder had the victims stayed dead. What do you think?

I agree, not only did it end with all the aliens being defeated, but the infected people almost all came back and everyone got with the person they really wanted and all had a happy ending. (Except maybe Principal Drake, I don't think there's any coming back from that lol) But yes, I think the movie would have left a better impact if it wasn't so 'perfectly settled' and possibly more of an open ending.

I've always thought you could interpret the ending both ways. What if they were wrong and destroying the queen really did nothing? Perhaps everything being all fine and dandy and picture perfect was a sign that the aliens had won.

reply

Ooh I like that. Makes it even better if that were true... The queen in the end doesn't really matter as the plan succeeds even without her.

It was still an unhappy ending. Stan has to make due with Stokes while Casey gets to bonk Delilah. I know he helped save the school and everything but did he really earn such a hottie?

Delilah and Stan were all wrong for each other. You could see how superficial she was in the beginning, Stan said so himself, and she didn't support him at all. Stan and Stokely clearly had a thing going on. Casey ended up with Delilah because it wanted to show how the "geek" got the girl in the end lol.

reply

Well we saw that the queen's death prevented those spike-looking things from taking over Casey. Also, in the ending the people were shown to be behaving and interacting in a normal way. Just because things are "fine and dandy" doesn't mean that the people are still under the control of the alien.

I agree that the idea that all the aliens die with the queen is stupid, though.

I completely agree. I really enjoyed this movie right up until the sappy, forgettable ending.

I read the first draft of the script and I think they did stay dead. The script was way different than the movie actually.

In the Actual Script, Delilah and Stan Died. Casey had another love interest named Molly which was better suited for him. He stood with her at the end. I kinda like this ending than the other one only because I didnt like that Stan died after he and stokely kissed. He died right in front for her too.

Agreed. In the actual script, Stan was more protective of Stokely than Delilah. There was a scene where both of them were hurt and he went comfort stokely first. Delilah was mad ass hell. lol

Casey Stood with Molly. She was cut out off the script I guess.

At least they didn't make it like most horror films where it seems to be the end...or is it?

I always get sick of those endings where a character then looks at the camera, and their eye turns red, or you see something rise up out of the basement like, 'it's not over.'

What's with people needing a twist/unhappy ending? Sometimes it's good to end things happily. And in my opinion, this was one of them. It isn't Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

I've never seen that. I've never seen anybody drive their garbage down to the street and bang the hell out of it with a stick. I-I've never seen that.

To me it is very unclear if those who died actually lived after Mary Beth was killed. I know they show Jon Stewart in the credits with an eye patch and no fingers but I thought that was more for comedic effect than to show us what had actually happened after Mary Beth had died. I just figured if you died while the alien was inside you, you were dead period. Heck Principal Drake died as a human AND as an alien in the movie.

Agree with OP. The ending was schmaltz.

Mrs. Burke was alive though. She seemed fine.

I totally agree. That was some kind of a writer's cop out. Just kill one and everything turns back to normal. not only is that lazy writing but it lightens the tone of the film too much. Maybe the studio demanded a happy ending.
