66deg33'40'NORTH - 2deg55'5'EAST

Otto is going to that specific place to find Ana in the end of the film. If i noted them correctly then there is a "deliberate" mistake by Julio Medem. While 66deg33'40"NORTH is just above the arctic circle, 2deg55'5"EAST is certainly not in Finland (actually, the point 66deg33'40"NORTH - 2deg55'5"EAST is in the sea west of Norway). I was hoping that the directions would lead me to the specific location where the ending of the film was shot, but no way. Could anyone propose something?

By the way, this is my favourite film ever.

The ending was shot in the town of Rovaniemi. I don't know for sure about the area in the forest with the lake and the hut, but I believe it to be near that same town. It would be my dream trip to go there, since this is my favourite film as well and the biggest form of art created.

"Dream trip" alright... I've been thinking about that since the first time I saw this movie and everytime I see it I imagine what it would be like to go there...
I know! Let's earn some money and go there one day...

I want, all I´ve to do is take the train and travel to Rovaniemi. Btw, part of the film was shot only 20 km away from where I´m living. Can´t though recognize any specific places. Only after reading the credits I realized it was shot so near me...

Does anyone know where exactly the lake-part was filmed?

//Okay, I found out (actually I asked my mother). It's shot in Olkkajärvi ("the Lake Olkka"), which is approx. 20 km from Rovaniemi.

The other thing that came up was that very few (if any) of the city-scenes were actually shot in Rovaniemi. At least the ending was shot in Helsinki, this one I remember myself.
Maybe I'll have to watch it again.

You can only see the midnight sun for a month from Rovaniemi. I know, I was there and I missed it.

Perhaps the coordinates were set for where the plane was headed to, not where Otto was headed in his parachute.

where does otto get these coordinates? i am wondering if they are written on the package from ana that he receives? i didn't catch it in the couple of times i have seen the film, but maybe someone with the dvd knows

yes, it was written on the back of the package. There was also a carrier's stamp which showed he had flown the plane which had delivered it. Co-incidence upon co-incidence.

2 deg 55' 5" East would be a line that runs though eastern Spain somewhere near Barcelona, maybe he used that half of the coordinates to symbolically connect the characters in Spain to the Artic Circle destination in Finland as symbolized by the 66 degree north reference.

Where were the people supposedly living in Spain ?
Where was the film shot in Spain?
Where does Meden live in Spain ?

Perhaps that is the E-W reference to one of those locations ??
