Was Chuck Barris Stoned?

Don't get me wrong, I thought he was awesome as the host of this show. But he was definitely quirky and seemed to slur a lot of words as well as stutter. His outlandishness added to this crazy show. I am just curious. If he was just acting or getting really into the show full force , that is ok too. Just loved his over zealousness whatever the reason.

I read that many people thought he was clinically insane.

I spoke of "The GOng SHow" and "Match Game" in another thread. I agree with you - it's the looseness of the people involved (Like Chuck Barris) that make these shows funny. Personally I think half of them were drunk (Barris included). If someone acts like that today - well, then I think they actually are putting on an act. I don't think it was an act in the 1970s - it was a looser time. Things were looser, people were looser.

I think Jaye P. Morgan flashed her breasts, crazy times for sure.

I've read that, too. It actually proves my point. If something like that happens today you know it's a well planned out, staged, phony, act. Recent history (JUstin Timberlake and Janet Jackson) proves it. I'd bet a million bucks that when JAye P. Morgan did it she was at least half in the bag and having a blast.

Jamie Farr takes credit for suggesting to Chuck Barris that it not be an ordinary talent show. The judges and the audience itself could participate along with the contestants and for it to be loose, with a party atmosphere. This is what made the show a syndicated smash.

Really? I didn't know that. What I do know is I was a little boy at that time and "The Gong Show" was huge. For a couple of years there, everyone was talking about it. In today's world, I have Game Show Network. "The GOng SHow" of the 1970s looks (nowadays) like a bunch of people having a party. Looks like everyone is having a blast. I guess Jamie Farr was right.

Yup

The Oscar slap was well planned out too

reply

Hahahah - you know I've had quite my fill of "The Slap" but I must say - I argued in several threads that the whole incident was a planned out, staged event. I'm with you on that 100%.

It was so obvious, the Oscar ratings were so low I can't believe millions of people have fallen for it.

That makes two of us. Everyone had something to gain. Rock (upcoming tour), Smith (slights on his manhood), Pfizer (the drug company that has a cure for Jada Pinkett's ailment), the Academy (no one cares about their show anymore). Add to that what I'm sure were nice, fat checks for Rock and Smith, and there you have it.

Didnt he work for the CIA, and I think there was a movie about that, I forgot the title.
