Sandy...FEMA...Gov Bailout

Feel free to nitpick anything written in this post as I am eager to hear almost any coherent opinion.

Last week's episode featured the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and the inability of those affected to get government money that was promised. Is there anyone who believes the government has the right or the ability to rebuild lives once devastated by a catastrophic event? Is there anyone surprised by what took place and featured in the documentary? Am I the only one who likes to hear answers before money is thrown at a problem?

Yes, hurricane Sandy reeked havoc and destroyed the livelihood or financial lives of many. I personally have issues with the government trying to step in like Don Quixote to save the day. Spreading money as if it were fertilizer.

My first question would be: Who is entitled to a government bailout? It has been decided that those affected by hurricane Sandy should receive funds to rebuild their homes/lives. I ask the question: Shouldn't everyone be entitled to the same consideration. Whether it be due to a hurricane, fire or from any other cause. Shouldn't people be asking why is my devastation not covered when hurricane Sandy is?

My next question would be: How much? Is it the government's role to make them whole again? The documentary even interviewed a family who took a gamble and did not buy flood insurance. And of course they lost. But still they are waiting for the government money to come in.

And I think my final question would be: How many times? How many times should a person or an area be bailed out financially? There are signals that mother nature sends to the populace telling us not to build here. And almost nowhere does it scream loudest than those areas devastated by hurricane Sandy in the New York area. Those homes which are being rebuilt or saved are being lifted 15 or more feet above their original position. I think that alone speaks volumes.
