!!The Best British Soap Ever!!

Am i the only person who loved this show? When it was first being advertised before it started in 1992 i thought "oh another ****** show" but i gave it a chance and glad i did. Ok, the acting wasnt amazing but so isnt most of the acting in Eastenders, Corronation Street and Emerdale. The scenary made up for that, and there was 1 or 2 great stories. I was gutted when they axed it, but was luky enough to see most of the episodes again when they were repeated on UKGold. Now the BBC has all these digital channels, why dont they repeat it on one of those? maybe BBC4 as that has had a few classic Beeb hits repeated like Threads. Let us know what you think, there must be more Eldorado fans here?

I agree. The RADO rules! Best soap ever! After a ropey start, it built up to do some incredible things that no other soaps have done. I would like to nominate Roland Curram and Tessa Wojtczak as Best Soap Actors, as Freddie and Natalie, and nominate the Freddie/Javier story as the Best Soap Plot. Such a shame that The Rado was cut down just when it was getting into its stride!

Join up to the Yahoogroup ... plenty going on there. Ten years on, and The Rado still lives.

Yeah, lets start a protest, well refuse to pay our tv licences till they bring it back! Seriously though, it was a huge and welcome break from all the gluminess of Enders and the smelly farming stories on dale, anything, even crossroads beats corrie so wont go there.

Who was that guy in the last episode who turned up on fredies doorstep? me brother said it was blare but im not so sure, saw it repeated on ukgold a couple of year back and thought i realised who it was but forgot lol.

It got off to a slow (very slow!) start but the last couple of months were amazing! I converted lots of my friends into liking it but then it went....

By the way right at the end of the last episode Freddie opened the door to his lover was it Xavier's father?

In the last episode, Freddie is buying flowers and lighting candles for a romantic dinner, so it's unlikely to be Javier's father (Roberto) ... Riberto has just been copping off with Javier's widow (Ingrid)!

It's a great thing that the second-to-last scene in the last episode gives Freddie a happy ending. With boring Marcooooooze and Plar getting the final scene to themselves, I am ppeased the producers remembered to give some of the likeable characters a decent send-off.

On the subject to the last episode ... what about the twist with Stanley and Rosemary Webb?!?!

I liked this show so much and was gutted when it went off the air.

The "Who is Paco?" storyline where the English old, gay guy was going out with the guy who was dating the hot Swedish chick was awesome. You didn't know who it was until the Spaniard guy came through the door. Storyline must have been building for about six months. Awesome stuff.

EDIT: I'll admit that at the start of the run the show was pretty poor but when everybody knew it was getting canned it *really* started to pick up.

I watched "Eldorado" from the very beginning. Yes, at first it was a bit ropey - but the idea was always fascinating. The makers of the show knew this and made sufficient changes to make the show really watchable. By the end it was getting nearly 10 million viewers - but was sadly removed from our schedules by someone wanting to appear "popular".

It ended up a wonderful show - and I still miss it.

P.S. Visited the set the other day and it's a real shame that it's lying empty when it could still be providing entertainment for us all.

Hehee, I'm glad someone else liked this too. As a rule I can't stand British soap - it all seems to be about incredibly depressing things happening to deeply unlikable people. But this was fun and really quite gripping towards the end, and, as everyone else has said, there were some excellent storylines, and a cracking finale. I'd definitely watch it again.

So bad it was good.
I learnt today it had 10 million viewers at it's peak.

I liked the show and wished they didn't end it, but I guess the 'soap in the sun' format meant it would come up against Neighbours and Home and Away. So although it was doing well it would ultimately have to share viewing numbers with the other 2 soaps. I still think it was better than either of the Australian soaps as being in Spain it related more to the British viewing public.

I remember that by the time Eldorado was introduce I had got fed up with Neighbours as the characters and plots had become very bland. Neighbours was a great soap in the beginning but had lost the humour and characters that you grew to cherish that made it so watchable. It was the same sort of humour and character development that I liked in Eldorado.

Shame. Oh well, C'est la vie
