Happy 80th Birthday, Uncle Phil! He was aboard USS Point Cruz!

My uncle, Phil Marler, was aboard the USS Point Cruz when baby Danny was rescued. Today, 08/13/2012, is his 80th birthday, though he doesn't seem that old to me.

He told me the story about the doctor bringing the orphaned baby to the ship. He says the movie holds pretty true to the actual events. It was definitely true that all of the men aboard that carrier fell in love with that baby. Many of them, my uncle included, made gifts for the little guy.

My uncle became a part of history during those last days of the Korean War. I am so proud of him for serving our country but mostly just for being such a wonderful man.
