he wasn't. you see society especially in the 80s were very superficial. Nobody would take the time to really understand who a person was right off the street, so people to explain who they are where clothes to fit such...
Stevo wore chlothes that he felt resemble who he was... reagan shirts, crazy blazers ext.ext. to show that he was against reagan and eccentric in a nutshell.
in a superficial society appearences are the medium fot self identification, this also explain's Stevos hate for posers because they take advantage of this medium. not punks just people who appear to be punks: POSERS. Stevo was a punk who wanted to look like a punk so people know he was a punk.

I get what you're saying, and I'm guessing you're saying this because of what Brandy said. I was a little annoyed by that too, though I don't recall her saying Steveo was a poser. Though I know she said it looked like he was in uniform. DUH! Look at Native American tribes, they dress alike. Did they have to? No, but it showed who they were, you could look at them and go, hey, that's a Sioux, that's a Navajo, that's a Mohawk. It's not just fashion when it shows who you are. Like I said you don't HAVE to, look at Mike, but you're right, he was a punk and he wanted people to know it.

Steveo wasn't a poser, but he definitely was way too anal about his need to be labelled as a punk. It's always punk this, punk that, he's a poser, she's a poser, blah blah blah.

He clearly felt that he had something to prove, and in the end of the movie, we understand why. He was trying to be a specific kind of person that he was not. In the end he realized that you can do more damage inside the system than out, he says. I don't think his ideas changed, but his method became a bit more practical.

So I guess I agree - he wasn't a poser, just too hung up on fitting into a stereotype of "punk".

That's how punks spend 90% of their time. Reminding other people how punk they are and how much everyone else has sold out.

First of all, it's poseUr, NOT poser.

Secondly, I am not sure if Steve-O was a poseur all along but he definitely ended up as a Sell-out and a phony. At the end of the movie, Steve-O was OK about things and Steve-O seemed to give a nod in favour of everything Steve-O was against. If there was a sequel to this movie, it would be about how Steve-O becomes his dad. Also, it was very abruptly so; Steve-O's "punk" identity died with Bob and so I find that the quick shift in identity and morals and Steve-O's less than adequate argument for this, makes him a phony. Obviously, Steve-O was very idealistic and was intelligent about explaining his beliefs but at the sane time, Steve-O was also immature. I liked the storyline of how Steve-O was maturing and coming of age but did he really have to end at the extreme? Uhh only if he was a poseur... and Steve-O admits that he only became a punk in the first place because of Bob.

i agree with this 100%. you have an excellent point. but in the end he even said it himself, he was nothing more than a "trendy ass poser". or maybe it's because he felt like one because he was turning his back on most of his beliefs. he wound up going to law school to do something he was totally against and didn't stand for. but it's like he said; you can do a hell of a lot more damage in the system than you can outside of it.

Dude, you all missed the major point of the movie: WE ARE ALL FREAKING POSERS!! No matter what, no matter how deep into something we think we are, it all comes down to this: WE ARE ALL POSERS. The only "real" thing we are is HUMAN, and even then, some of us fail to qualify in that! WE ARE ALL POSERS, that is what life is all about. RAmen.
