Too bad they never made a sequel

I'm not saying that this was a great movie, or that the ending made perfect sense. But the ending was interesting and intriguing, proven by the fact that people still argue over it.

And a sequel to it would have given us something not seen in 8 apes movies so far, the apes in control of a mordern day society. Regardless of the first movie, that would have been cool to see.

I also think it could be interesting. The ending really demands some explanation, even though they could make it much less confusing very easily by replacing Abe's head with that of an ape without stating that this particular ape is Thade.

we have a good sequel now to a much improved reboot.

True, but apes in the modern world instead of living in tents and riding horses, etc. is what I would have liked to seen.

Apes driving cars, apes making films and tv, apes versions of professional sports, etc. A futuristic ape society would have been cool to see. Pure scifi what if.

And for whatever reason the opportunity was missed. I don't really believe what the trivia section says, that negative critical response caused them to scrap a sequel to such a financially successful film.

But it's a fact, nonetheless.

A sequel of apes in a modern city would've been cool. And something different.

I remember catches glimpses of Tim Burton on TV shortly after its release about maybe doing a sequel, but that's it.
