It is ridculous

That two actors turned down major roles on two commercially successful franchises, to work on this crap. Did they think this would do better than ocean 11 and harry potter? I mean really? Ocean 11 was already a 1960s classic with great actors, so it was destined to be great. And Harry potter was a successful book franchise that was sure to create sequels. I mean both actors could have made ten times the money they made with this crap as BOTH movies they turned down ended up having sequels. I really think both actors have to be kicking themselves for that mistake.

"Destined to be great"...how do you verify that? Those re-makes could have easily sucked as well, with a different director, writer, actors...etc. I am sure there were Fox executives that thought a re-boot of POTA was "destined" to be great as well. Hindsight is 20/20.
With a different director...writer...lead actor...studio non-interference...etc. this film might not have been crap either. there are a multitude of reasons films turn out crap, disappointing, full of plot holes, bad acting, etc. etc...
As far as the actors kicking themselves, well that may be true. But actors taking roles sometimes goes beyond the actor themselves saying yes, their agent could have talked them into it, they didn't read the script, pressure from their spouses to get money to pave the driveway, they were drunk when they said yes, any number of reasons.

A GOOD MAN ALWAYS KNOWS HIS LIMITATIONS!
