i found a new goof not mentioned on IMdB

during the graduation scene after Leigh Anne (Katie Holmes) receives her excellence award, the shot goes back to, first, Luke, then to Jo. In the back of Jo are bleachers where u see a black man with his arms up holding a boom stick. the microphone thing.

And if she said a white man, would that have sound wrong?

It would if he was a black man.

sorry but he just stood out...
i watched it again and u also see that when leigh anne (holmes) goes back to sit down after receiving her award, walking toward her seat u see two guys: one holding another boom stick microphone and a speaker box thing..

A black man with a boom box, now that's just stereotypeing.

Only thing that's bothered me about calling people black is that when you really think of the color black, and then look at a black person...They're not really black (Well, I have seen some that're pretty dark) so I really just use politically correct terms most of the time...

White people aren't all that white.

i saw this last nite. another goof. while Jo is doing her redition of the "Exorcist", in the wide shot of Tingle, her feet are crossed on the bed. when the camera keeps cutting to Jo, her feet are uncrossed. as they keep cutting back and forth her feet continuosly cross and uncross. this happens several times during the shot

I don't know any Black person who is offended by the term "Black".
The worst use ever of "African-American" was when Jay Leno's wife once called black South Africans, "African-Americans".

"Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine." Patti Smith - Gloria.

reply

Yes, but the most widely accepted PC term for 'black' is 'African-American.'

It's a completely presumptuous term. You don't know if the person's ancestors came from Africa (black people come from LOTS of other countries! Jamaica, for instance) OR that they're American. Besides, most black people I know prefer to be called black rather than African-American.

The black guy with the mic, is standing next to a white man who is filming the ceremony.....its part of the movie...

reply

It speaks volumes that douches feathers get into a flutter because someone used the "black" word. Get the f^&K over your racist self. Nobody looks like the skin color they've been "assigned." No real stereotypes are true. And your nationality doesn't affect your soul. GET OVER IT.

What I thought was funny was the image I had in my mind from that sentence. A man holding a "boom stick" over his head. The only boom stick I know is a shotgun capable of making undead women do backflips at S-Mart. The mic is simply called a boom, or boom mic for needlessly long.

It's "must have" "should have" "could have" and "would have" for God's sake there's no "of".

reply

ok whatever about the convo this has turned into...

BUT i seriously dont understand why the crew, esp the boom guy is in the shots?!?! I mean...? Also, the last scene has no dialogue or real sound that wasn't added in post, so why even have boom mics?

reply

OK, let us put an end to this thread once and for all. I just saw the ending again to confirm this: The "man" holding the boom at the graduation scene is there intentionally. For some reason unknown to us they are filming the graduation itself. Because you see a camera crew in the background, I think they are filming the graduation to be shown on their local news. Again, I don't why it is being filmed, but it is not a goof. There you go.

reply

Yes, mickeyhfgg is correct. The guy is there on purpose. In the last shot our happy trio passes by a "news cameraman" just before the frame freezes on them.

I suppose the idea is news is covering the event and possibly the "Tingle Story" has got out making the ceremony even more newsworthy. They did however look out of place to me.
