Great story with an unneeded twist

I loved the story. However, I thought that the twist at the end was cheap and unnecessary. It didn't add anything to the story. I mean, what difference would it have made if you had know from the beginning who was who? I think it would have been a better movie if the "twist" had not been present but the identities of the people had been known from the start.
