Zoe
Anyone else besides me think that Zoe was a brat? I mean she hardly listened to anybody and she just walked into Sams house!

sharehahaha! do you have kids? most of the them will be like her and they are far away from being brats.:-))
shareI think she was a HUGE brat! And so annoying... I have 3 grown kids and 5 little grandbabies and thank goodness none of them act like that little girl! It's just a part...hopefully she's not so annoying in person!
shareI have yet to see a kid that age who doesn't do some of those sorts of things. Granted, some of the things she did deserved punishment but she was no more of a brat than any other kid I have known. Actually, I thought she was quite sweet and the interaction between her and Sam was as well.

Not particularly.
Have you ever watched Miracle on 34th Street? Her "running into the house" rather mirrored a similar scene from that old movie. I'm sure the producer/directors at least hoped some folks would be able to make the connection. It was obviously a plot device to get her and her mother to link up with Sam.
I have trouble taking the posts in this thread seriously.
Punishing a child for climbing a tree in distress? Punishing someone for trying to do what they thought would protect someone they loved? Discipline is often needed, but punishment is inappropriate for those kinds of actions. If you don't know the difference, I would pity your children.

I think it was more Kathleen being an enabler. She really didn't discipline Zoe. She treated her more as an equal than a parent/child (i.e. when Sam first offered her the job to pretend to be his wife, she had to "discuss" it with Zoe first). It also seemed like everything in her life was about Zoe. I agree your child should always come first, but if they grow up thinking it's all about them they will be spoiled little brats.

so how much of an idiot does that make you to comment on "bitching" you find "ridiculuos"?
shareI agree with you Rizdeck. Zoe was intelligent, happy,(in spite the understandable treatment by her biological father), affectionate, giving, loving, a free spirit, and pretty. What more could a parent want in a daughter?
And that is the result of not punishing a child.
The character of Zoe is not written as well as it could have been. She is written as a brat for dramatic effect, but they could have found more realistic ways to portray her troubles rather than by being a brat with an enabling mother.
I'm not too fond of children but I didn't find Zoe irritating. I liked her verbal sparring with the adults. Like "Yes infinity" and "Grow up - You first."
