Herschell's gooch arm...

What was the deal with Herschell's arms? Did anyone else notice that they were horribly discolored?
You can even see the other actors' disgust in the film whenever they accidently touch a portion of his gnarled arm flesh.
Is it possible that he was burned by napalm or something in the war? That could be where he was first introduced to the "hard stuff," courtesy of Brad Grinter, the naked medic.

Steve Hawkes, the actor that played Herschell, was badly burned in an accident at the time, and needed to pay for his medical bills by starring in Blood Freak. He later recalled the role in Blood Freak as "a sad chapter in my life."

My question is, how could Dana Cullivan (the actor who starred as Ann) even pretend to have sex with him with such ugly burn marks?

reply

I assume she was distracted by the giant papier-mache turkey head.

Who cares if his arm was burned? He was an absolutely gorgeous man! I couldn't keep my eyes off him (pre-turkey that is).

-I was wondering what the was on his arm, burn makes sense. This guy had bad luck, I read that he was severely burned AGAIN like a couple years after this film, which ended his acting career. Does anyone know how bad it was??

I you recall, when the farmer finds him after his hallucinations, Herschel says he was " badly burned in Vietnam", which is where and why he originally became a drug user. Didn't know those burns were real though.

reply

How bad the burns were or his acting career?

reply

I think he ( and us ) were burned by this movie,
or he fell out of the roaster pan 45 minutes into
his professional roasting.
