Sexiest scene or moment!

If you had only one scene to choose in this film as the sexiest or most sensual, which would it be?

I'm having a hard time with this one, but there is something very beautiful and sensual about the scene where Matt makes his way into Nimi's room snooping around so he can find out more about her. She catches him in there reading one of her books and he finds out her name. He tells her his name is Matthew to which she replies "I know". Then he tells her to say it and she does. Nothing physical takes place in this scene, yet it is filled with a magical, sensual beauty that touches me!

reply

I totally agree with your assessment of what is sexy and sensual with a look and tonal quality used in the responses. You can feel the undercurrent of passion therein lies between these two during this exchange. I love this movie because of the chemistry Nia Long and Colin Firth have for each other.

Rutland, thanks for your response. I was starting to feel so lonely over here. If you know of anyone else who has seen this movie and appreciated it, please invite them to check out this message board. Are you a Colin Firth fan?

reply

Agree with you both about this lovely and sensual scene. I like some of the more conventionally romantic and sexy scenes too, but this one does stand out.

I also like the "Say my name" scene and also like the scene prior to that when Nimi meets his wife and makes the comment in her culture addressing someone by their first name is considered a very intimate act, almost as intimate as sex. I like the look Matthew gives her as he listens to her. To me that just adds to the significance and sensuality of the scene later when he asks her to say his name.

The other sexy moment I like is when Nimi is sketching and Matthew starts kissing her on the neck. Unfortunately Sammy walks into the room just then and breaks the moment which frustrates Matthew. But I love that nuzzling on the neck part.

reply

To heighten the effect of that scene turn up the sound the next time you view it. Listening to Colin's kissing sounds as he is nuzzling Nimi is very erotic (or maybe I'm just sick)...well anyway, it's very sexy to me!

reply

I know exactly what you mean! And you are definitely not sick (or I am too since I think it's incredibly sexy as well!).

reply

Another sexy scene in this movie is when Matthew asks Nimi to come and have lunch with him. She refuses at first then he actually begs her to. After she says yes, he hangs up the phone with this smile on his face and you know what's on his mind...then you see it taking place, for in the following scene they're in bed!

reply

It's very sexy the way he looks and behaves during that phone call, if she could see him, she would agree at once! Love that smile too!

Yes I did PM you Sheksa because I thought you showed interest in this movie from one of your posts and maybe I PM'd the wrong person. I was just trying to draw others into a discussion about a movie I like. I noticed for this to be one of the top movies his fans liked according to one of the Firth websites, It seemed strange to me there was no message board. So I took matters into my own hands and started one. I also love other Firth movies too and there are plenty of posts on those message boards.

Chyne, you responded beautifully to the Black question, so I don't need to go there. The character Colin plays in this movie (Matthew Field) and his wife have an open marriage; and part of this movie is about realizing that there is a point in life when impersonal structures and lack of committment are not enough, and you need more.

FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chyne and ShiksaBaby calm down and stop it! You've both misunderstood each other, both accidentally insulted each other. Just cool down! People on these boards come from a wide range of countries, religions, races and age groups and allowances have to be made for misunderstandings. It is best to give the benefit of the doubt in all cases.
Of course you don't have to be black to enjoy this film but it could be relevant to your view of it if that view is due to experiences resulting from your colour; ie actually being in Nimi's or her mother's position of living where your race is a minority and having a choice which involves choosing between the easier option of someone of the same background, and the more controversial choice of someone you love from a different background, indeed from another country as well as another race.
We don't want people avoiding these threads when they're barely begun! Lets just discuss the film and leave each other alone.
We are dicussing the sexiest scene or moment. If you are lucky enough to have seen any of this film, let's hear what you think about that.

One of the things I like about the message boards is we all just get to be human and communicate with people all around the world without worrying about race. Sad as it may seem, if some of us could see each other face to face, we wouldn't even be sharing our opinions because of racial differences and prejudices.

Now...let's get back to discussing the movie! I don't know if they had an open marriage from the beginning, but it seems like they had been married for a while. Regarding the impersonal structures, Matt was accountable to no one. On the other hand, Nimi had the structures of her family and the members of her exiled African community. The accountability she had to them in some ways was good, but in other ways it was stifling, even to the point of lessening her self-esteem because being a single mother was frowned upon.

Nimi's mother, church, and culture were great influences in her life. When you are close to people, there's a certain amount of power they have over your life whether you want to admit it or not. It seems like Nimi wanted to break free from these controlling influences so she could be her own person. Matthew in a way represents freedom...ahhhh the symbolism again!

Sheksa, that was a very touching scene. Matthew embracing Nimi and Sammy. I believe this is what his character was searching for, a sense of belonging and connection; not the selfishness of living for the moment for pleasure. Matthew was afraid of needing and wanting someone, but his love for Nimi changed that.

reply

The sexiest scene in this movie is when Matthew ask Nimi if she wanted to build the garden in the picture that Sammy have brought with him. And the way she looks at him, because it seems as if no one had ever care about what made Nimi happy, and Matthew simply question won her heart.

reply

It's amazing how people see different things because I kind of wondered about this scene also. Did she have something written on the back of the picture?

Another scene I also think is sexy is when Matt comes to Sammy's birthday party and he tells Nimi that there is still more work to be done in the garden. The tension in the glances they give one another and Rev. Fola, the underlying meanings given in their exchange under duress because everyone is watching them!

reply

Almost all the scenes in this film seem to work on two levels don't they? There are so many conversations that discuss one thing overtly and another covertly. I think that is part of it's fascination for me.

reply

Sexiest scene to me was, from the moment Matthew steps into the garden and sees Nimi in the window of his cottage until the end of the scene when they are laying on the floor and she puts her hand in his hair after he realized that this was what she wanted and needed too.

reply

While lying there, he really looks as if he has found peace. He looks very relaxed. Must've been a very good romantic interlude by the happy look on his face after he begs her to come and have lunch for a little afternoon delight!

God Bless you Shiksa.

reply

My thoughts exactly. Also, if you noticed the next scene where Nimi was buttoning her blouse and she gave this little laugh as if she was remembering too prior to her mother entering the room.

reply

I just saw this movie and had to come look for the message board.

For me,the sexiest scene was at the very begininng when Matt first meets Nimi. They're leaving the church and everyone is looking at them. Nimi responds that they are looking at the stain on her clothing., and Matt (a VERY sexy Colin) replies that he doesn't see any stain. "you're perfect!" Colin gives a look that could melt Antarctica!! He had just met this woman! Wow! That was it for me from then on!

I REALLY enjoyed this movie, and it did take me a long time to find it, but it was worth every penny is spent!!!

reply

Where did you see this lovely movie? I first saw it on Lifetime Television for Women and it touched my heart so much so that I just had to have a copy of this movie. I searched and searched until the young lady that started this message board told me where to get a copy. Now I own 2 copies.

reply

'Say my name' hand down!

Then the scene where he's convalescing in her apartment. Curly hair tussled on a pillow. Those brown eyes and dimples. :)

And THEN, the scene where Nimi visits Matthew's place for the first time to sketch it, and Matthew shamelessly, openly begins the flirting!

reply

The sensual scenes in this movie just have a way of staying in your memory. They are so different. The say my name and wrapper scenes are unforgettable; and Colin standing in a sea of red tomatoes looking up at Nimi...Be still my foolish heart!

reply

Say my name, say my name ... even Destiny's Child agrees!

reply

And then she unwraps the wrapper! I oftentimes wondered why they didn't kiss instead of hugging; but later on I began to see what the writers wanted to convey. These two people were seeking more than sex. They were seeking true intimacy and Matthew had found a resting place in Nimi's arms.

reply

Oh, I was talking about the scene where Nimi catches Matthew snooping around her apartment. It was at that point that Nimi's resolve broke and Matthew FINALLY began to get somewhere with her. It also began their intimacy. Personally, I thought the wrapper scene was a bit stilted and lame. I mean, Matthew supposedly wants Nimi so bad that his hair hurts, and the minute he gets her alone he ... hugs her.
OK whatever. While I didn't expect some tacky torrid sex scene, I felt the director and actors could have expressed more intimacy from the two main characters. There was one scene when the actors actually expressed real warmth between Matthew and Nimi, and that was when he showed up at her apartment in the middle of the night to apologize for being a jerk earlier that day. While Matthew is fumbling around for the right words, hint: 'I was a s-dding jerk' Nimi watches him patiently, sweetly. Then they kiss. That was nice. Smoother than the wrapper scene, which was dreadful.

reply

I loved the wrapper scene. It was very sexy to me, very different; and I liked the cultural aspect of it too. IMHO the way they hugged said a lot. Matthew did want Nimi terribly, but he was also dealing with some deep emotional pain. He was searching for the meaning of life and sensed he could share this with Nimi.

This doesn't have anything to do with the subject but I just wanted to comment on the scene when Nimi comes to the Field's for drinks and Matthew is grilling meat. I thought it was very humorous. I guess I'm a little SLOW because I didn't catch on to it until later.

reply

Alright, I'm going to say something that might get me into a lot of trouble on this board. At the risk of getting hammered: I thought the wrapper scene was aw-FUL because Matthew and Nimi -- as played by Nia and Colin -- were physically all wrong for each other. And they already established intimacy with that whole 'say my name' bit, so why couldn't the writer come up with something else for them to say?
I KNOW the world is chock full of examples of 6'+ guys coupled with women on the petit side. There are lots of examples of leading men who tower over their leading ladies, but whenever the story called for Matthew to hold his lady, it didn't go over smoothly.
Maybe they shouldn't have cast Colin in this one. There I said it!! I respect that a lot of viewers saw something totally different from what I saw, but I thought his performance was askward, really awkward.

reply

It won't get you into any trouble with me. You have a right to your opinion. Hey girlfriend...I just love me some Colin Firth, so I like watching him no matter what!

reply

I too loved this movie.
The height difference between Matthew and Nimi is the same as the height difference between my parents.
Maybe the director should have taken a leaf out of their book and had Nimi stand on a step

reply

That was one of the sexiest scene is this movie. The most important thing was that they were the same height when it came to the best part...in bed. Matthew Fields was considered a warrior, a giant of somewhat in this movie. Nimi and Sammy's rescuer. Now there's nothing wrong with short guys but in my opinion, a hero should be tall, and sexy helps a lot. Matthew made you want to fall into his arms.

Jenny was tall but when she stood next to Matthew or even in the scene where they were dancing together, there was something missing. So to see Nimi on the shorter side of height and Matthew towering over her made you believe that he could be her rescuer, her saracen.

But the sexiest scene to me is when they sat on the sofa in his mansion talking about the antelope. 75% of sex starts with the mind and a conversation. The other 25% consist of the act of love.

reply

How much is Colin Firth in this movie? Just trying to determine if it is worth the search for it. :)

reply

Colin is the main male lead, so yes, he is in most of the movie. If you love Colin, you will love this movie...he was 39 in this one but he looks so much younger...got that kind of semi-long, curly, tousled hair thing going w/ those big brown eyes...YOWZAH !! He is hot in this one...romantic, sensual, tender and needy...try to find a copy to watch first, everybody likes different movies, but this one is worth looking for and spending your money on! I taped it off of Lifetime Movie Network, in desperation, after looking forever and never finding a copy available.

reply

This movie is worth watching. And if ever there was a leading man in a romantic role, Colin Firth is the man. The only man in my opinion. But good luck in finding a copy. Fortunate for me I found 2 copies and purchased both.

I was first introduce to this movie through Lifetime Television Movies and if I were a movie critic it would definitely be at the top of my list for romance. The music, the scenery, the kisses, the storyline will draw you in and make you cheer in the end. If you find a copy, get it. PLEASE!!!!!

reply

I agree Reverie3 that the hungry eyes in COLIN was shown in the b'day party scene. Very sexy. Also when he goes to her window. WOW. He's gorgeous. How I wish he looked at me that way. SIGH SIGH SIGH.

reply

"You *are* my wife" standing in a sea of red tomotoes. Even better than than "Say my name"!

The chemistry between Colin and Nia is palpable. And, I think Colin was more gorgeous in this film than in any of the other 30+ films of his that I have seen.

I watched it in parts on YouTube. Thank god -- I have been waiting for years to see this. I have read from hard-core Colin fans how wonderful the film is and now I can share that sentiment!
