How come so many people like this movie? sure i like the actors and what not, but when you think about it, the entire film is like watching you and your drunk friends launching off firecrackers out in a field. also i love the whole "i dont want me son doin any of that science, SCIENCE WILL KILL YA!"

Actually, when most of us think about it, the entire film is a lot more than drunk friends launching firecrackers. If you've really thought about it and that's all you get out of it, that boggles my mind, but that explains why you don't think the movie is all that great.

shareEither your a troll or a moron. Probably both. But just to set the record straight, Homer Sr. did want Homer to go into a scientific career as a mining engineer. Just because a parent doesn't see the value of a child pursuing a new coming science doesn't mean they're anti-science. And there is also the practical side that not every kid got a chance to go to college. Going to college is a much easier path to take today.

shareIt was a pretty by-the-numbers movie. Boy has dream, father isn't supportive, whole town throws in behind him, boy sees success, father finally proud.
I just finished watching it for the first time, and am replying to a ten year old topic...because yeah, it wasn't exactly as amazing as you'd heard it made out to be, but it was also twenty years ago. Kind of an old school feel-good story that you've seen so many times by now as to not have to see the movie to know the plot.
I don't know, I didn't see it.
