who else cried at this movie?

When he father finally comes to the final rocket launch, that made me cry.

reply

Me too! I cried when he asked his dad why he went to events with his other brother and not him. Also, when the teacher was in the hospital dying. This is such an uplifting movie.

i laughed.

reply

Why would you laugh? It was a nice touching scene. Sure it's used in a lot of movies, but then it actually happens a lot in real life. I have a copy of this movie, since I like science and watch it every now and again. I mist over at some of the scenes.

My friend burst out laughing at Mrs. Riley's death. To this day, the phenomenon has yet to be explained haha.

reply

You laughed because you're completely ignorant, or didn't follow the movie well at all. She had Hodgkin's disease which is a form of cancer of the lymph nodes. Not something I'd laugh about.

Every year we watch this for some class and I ALWAYS cry! Everybody makes fun of me but I can't help it. It's just so touching!

reply

All the events toward the end were pretty emotional. Expecially his Dad finally coming to a launch and his Dad and his teacher dying. I got a little choked up and my wife did a full fledged cry.

reply

*raises hand* Yep, and we watched this in SCHOOL too! I had to hold them back...lol, I think this guy sitting beside me was crying too, he was rubbing his eye.

reply

Sobbed like a baby!!! Many times. Maybe I'm hormonal...LOL!

It sounds dumb but I believe it's because when we watch a movie (usually a good one) and we get into it, we fall into the shoes of the character and feel all their emotions and all their desires. We all wished for our dad's love in the middle of the movie and it really felt like that was YOUR dad who came to YOUR show at the end. Get it?

It touches some people because they, in general, wish they could have a good relationship with their fathers. What got me personally when I first saw the ending was it got me thinking, "Man, my dad wouldn't come to my show like that..." which was kind of a bad thing to think, but that's how I really felt about him, he was almost never there. But when I was in jail, he visited me the first night... and every couple of nights (where he would find me crying on the table). So I watched the movie again and I appreciate it more.

reply

True - but I also got to say, Chris Cooper did quite a good job there.
