Why am I the only person who likes this?

Does anyone else have this problem?
I think this movie is funny, witty & very creative (though woul love to read the comics for comparison) but everyone I know who has seen it has been well... terribly strident in there dislike

"I believe God created me in one day"
Tell him to put you back in cause you aint done yet!

You'll soon learn that most people don't understand a dry or satirical humor that is found throughout most of Mystery Men. It's a great film and definitely underrated.

Just let them watch their Michael Bay movies and Larry the Cable guy and enjoy the goods like Mystery Men.

I love this movie dearly! So quotable!
I even dressed as The Bowler for halloween(kickin' patent leather boots and leopard print bowling bag included!)... I got alot of confused looks at the halloween party I went to but when my friend came in he recognized my costume (and flipped out about it!) and we've decided that next year we're going to round up the whole squad!
Just had to share!

Maybe you should put some shorts on or something, if you want to keep fighting evil today.

That sounds really cool!

Merry Christmas ya filthy animal.

tha best idea ive heard!! I love this movie and Im watching it now, it is dry humor so good!

Sooo many lines - The Waffler --- the PMS avenger "I only work 4 days a month - you GOT a PROBLEM WITH THAT?"

reply

This is absolutely the funniest movie I've seen in a long time. It's a total mock on superhero movies and it makes fun of so many sacred cows that I can see why people dislike it. Do you really think a woman is going to be inclined to give a positive rating after the PMS reference? And "White Flight and the Black Menace, they work together".

or it's incredibly sophomoric and the nerd equivalent of Larry the Cable Guy. it's one of the least funny movies I've ever seen...or at least the first 40 minutes was, I couldn't stand it any more. You have Doritos powder all over your shirt.

reply

of course, the movie is sophomoric. i thought that was the whole point. it makes fun of the hero movies that takes itself too seriously.

yet, for some reason schnoid1 or is it schnoidl makes a complete effort to look up the movie on imdb, go into the message board, and waste time writing about how much he dislikes the movie.

perhaps schnoidl is the larry the cable guy equivalent of trolls.

I agreed, this movie was highly under-rated. I'd like to see a Mystery Men Pt 2 or a Mystery Men comic book. Hell, Id like to see a Joe Dirt Pt 2!

"Oh, don't start that again! Lance Hunt wears glasses. Captain Amazing doesn't wear glasses"

reply

I'd like to see a Mystery Men Pt 2 or a Mystery Men comic book.

Um. Isn't it based on a comic book already?

reply

The movie was loosely based on the independent comic book series Flaming Carrot Comics by Bob Burden.

reply

Bam, zing! I did not know that. Do you know whether it's any good? I'd love to look for it.

"Jefferey? Are you on the marijuana?"

I love this movie! I think some people were maybe turned off by the Cap. Amazing thing (no spoilers here!), but I thought it was great. Viva La Blue Raja!!!!!!

reply

I finally saw it tonight. I was expecting pure crap, but I didn't feel like plucking my eyes out and vomiting even once. This movie does not suck. What a nice surprise!

watching people eat with their mouth open makes me FURIOUS!!!!!!!!!!

The whole nemesis/nemeses? dialog is funny.

Where Ricky Jay says "Im not a magician" --- of course he really was in real life - did a GREAT ep of X-Files.

How the hell you come up with "Casanova Frankenstein" for the bad guy.....

reply

I agree, this movie is really quite funny. I thought it was great, it never took itself too serious and really was funny and entertaining. I hate garafalos politics but I love her sweet body, something about her makes me want to touch myself :)

reply

I remember when I first rented this I must have watched it about 7 times in one night.
I rented it two more times then eventually brought it myself.
I feel it is a very underrated film and I love it.

You're so up tight that if you stuck coal up your ass, in a few weeks you'd have a diamond.

Funny, Mr Groin, I'm the opposite. I'm much more enamored of her politics, than her bod. I think her face is very pretty, though.
I remember, when she did a Cyrano # in The Truth About Cats & Dogs, with Uma Thurman--both Siskel & Ebert couldn't see why Garafalo'd be self-conscious, about her looks. Her mind made her more attractive to them, than Uma.
Then, when pursuing a film career, she used fen-fin to lose a lot of weight & came on Letterman, wearing leather pants--claiming that she'd 'sold out'. Didn't last long.

I think it's almost perfect. Like someone mentioned, I'm not 100% behind the Spleen...but in the middle of all the awesome, he works.

Just one great line after another in this movie. I can watch it over and over.

And I also had a crush on Janeane Garofalo.

Love the movie. I never understood how people couldnt fall in love with it as I did.

I would also like to say that i think this movie has the single greatest cast of all time from top to bottom.

Mystery Men is a fantastic movie and everyone I've met likes it (but hey, I'm Australian, so we've got a very laid back sense of humor )

And I agree that it does have a great cast, especially Geoffrey Rush who is an absolute legend!

reply

I adore this movie, I've got most of the scenes memorized. I've been watching it since I was around 8 when it first came out. xD
The cast is amazing and the movie is hilarious!

I feel Anonymous and Disposable...like an Ensign in Star Trek.

reply

This movie deserves way higher than 5.8 (maybe a 7.0)
