Are there any F1 Movies?!?

Grand Prix from 1966, directed by John Frankenheimer(director of Ronin and the Manchurian Candidate).

The racing scenes are awesome, and the film editing and sound is amazing, but the soap opera story is not very good, and some of the acting and dialogue is quite bad. Its good for racing fans, but don't believe the reviews of the film on this site, they will give you to high of expectations.

This is not a F1 movie! Indycar!

I'm actually shocked that nobody has remade Grand Prix yet. With the sucsess of car movies like F&F, Ricky Bobby and Gone in 60 Seconds this movie would be right there.

All hail the greed of King Bernie!

Say what you will about Eckie, he unintentionally saved F1 from being linked to this garbage. Also, I remember at the time there was much talk in the rumor mill that they were politely trying to blow Sly off, having premonitions of the hollywood Drivel to come.

Yes, Sly did indeed want this turd to be set in the world of F1. Burt Reynolds was going to be the Sir Frank Williams analog, and Til Schweiger was going to be the Michael Schumacher avatar. F1 has more class than that.

Actually as someone else said (other post same movie) that it would be impossible because F1 doesn't grant access, trademarks and the kind of things you would need to make a movie about it.

If you don't have any support why botter ? The movie would still have to pay the franchise only to be able to use the name "F1"...

I actually have a friend who not only works within the sport but has access to Bernie E. according to her, Sly approached Bernie with the idea as we all know by now and was told to go ahead and show him a finished script after the pitch. My friend told me that Bernie took the script after reading the first act and threw it at him and said "no way".

For one, F1 will not allow any outside medium to mock, or show it in a bad light. there is far too much money and reputations wrapped up in GP racing. also, in order to have the race film produced, all the teams have to sign off on it and that is a difficult proposition. Bernie will not sign off nor will the teams today if they do not have their permission. due to strict liscensing the Brand name Formula One and or its likeness cannot be used and FOM takes that very seriously.

Well it's a documentary but "Weekend of a Champion" is pretty good. In May of 1971 Roman Polanski spent the Monte Carlo weekend following Jackie Stewart around. Unbelieveable access was granted to the documentary film crew and to top it off Stewart won the Monte Carlo Grand Prix that year. Very interesting.

Rush

Senna

Williams

The first is a movie strongly based on fact. The others are documentaries.

Be warned: they are all about real cars and real racing, not the auto-porn of the other films you mention in your OP.
