VERY INTERESTING!

This game is really great, but does anyone out there still play it, or do they know where the actors are now or anything? Or is this just a game that no one remembers or got sick of? I'd luv to talk about this game again, even though it's been almost 10 years since it was released (god, time flies!) :)

Yeah, this was a fantastic game - Although it's been years since I've played it, I still got my copy of it! :D
Maybe I'll install it again; That could be cool! ;)

Yes, there are those of us that still play this game. I've gotten back into it recently and have been playing it a lot. It's still one of my favourite games ever! Check out the discussion forum for Phantasmagoria I and Phantasmagoria II at http://www.vugames.com/forum.do . It's listed under Sierra Game Forums.

Roberta Made this game because she wanted to have games for everyone. Kings Quest was for adventure gamers. Laura Bow, Police Quest, and Gabriel Knight was for mystery lovers. The Mother goose game was for pre-schoolers. Space Quest was for Sci-Fi gamers. Phantasmagoria was for adults. That is why she made the game.

PANTASMAGORIA is for me the best horror adventure game ever, the story is simply great and scary, Roberta Williams did a great job. I remember having nightmares and a was like afraid to play it from time to time, god, it dragged
realy in, I still remember the menu music, it was terrifing, every time I ran the game...But for me the story was just prefect...the environment, atmosphere, the whole mystery of the missing wives...perfect...
They realy got the right slogan for it ''Pray It's only a nightmare'' :))

But what I want to tell you is that someone should make a great movie out of it!
Much better than the haunting, I'm copmaring them because I feel they are little similiar.
But it should be made by someone who can make it look pretty scary, and not just ruin the title, cause that seems happening this days..(resident evil, the house of the dead etc..)

You know movies are mostly form books, and also phantasmagoria was a book,
From book to movie, from movie to game, from game to movie...well anyway it's all connected... So why someone shouldn't do it?

But I still hope that this movie will be made ...someday :)

I agree with all you said Rageinblack.
The game sure is creepy, ad the music is outsandingly spectecular.
Yes they should do a movie, since I played the game I was hoppig for a movie.
Great game indeed.

I was wondering why they didn't make into a movie myself

I loved the game, it was my mother's boyfriends game and when they broke up, he took it lmao I was sad. I really miss that game! I can't find it ANYWHERE, the markets have no respect for the classics!

As for the actors, Victoria Morsell (Adrienne) and David Homb (Don) dated and then married in real life but are now divorced. Morsell has remarried. They both have had some minor guest spots on television shows and some roles in movies here and there but sadly nothing big. Adrienne was a pretty lady or so I thought :) and some say the acting was cheesy but from what I remember they did okay, I mean they weren't five star actors but I thought they were okay.

reply

If you like this game so much you can surely order it via internet :)

The sad thing is that IMO the movie will never be made, becase it's well known that pure art hasn't the majority of people on his side...
And the majority side of ppl surely is also the most stupid side...
since then... That's also why the great horror is dead...
If you liked Phantasmagoria, I'm sure you'll enjoy movies like The haunting (1963) as well as the re-make of 1999, and The legend of hell house, these are the 2 movies I just can think about now :)

For some reason I recently had the urge to play this again. It was like my favourite game of all time when I first got it but then I could never seem to play it properly on any subsequent computer I had :-( The other day though I finally got it working on XP and played it through almost entirely in one sitting, I loved it just as much as I did when I got it almost 10 years ago, it's such a great game!! The only thing was the FMV sequences seemed much more pixelly than I remembered, but then that was almost 10 years ago and it was pretty groundbreaking then. I love these FMV type adventures (hated Myst though), Under a Killing Moon was great too, shame in my opinion that they don't make them any more, or do they, and I've just missed them? (excluding any sequel to Myst)

Also, anyone know where you can get/download the music to this? The opening score is fabulous, I always leave the title screen to hear it in full! Plus the ending music is quite catchy too.

Methinks I'll have to try and get a copy of Phantasmagoria 2, and that other Sierra one, Gabriel Knight Beast Within, looks cool. Just hope they both work on XP.

reply

Not to ruin it for you, cjp56, but if you were hoping for a continuation of the story in Phantasmagoria, you'll be sorely dissapointed. Phantasmagoria 2 is higher quality as far as production value---actual sets were used for most of the locations, the acting is better by far---but except in title, the two games are **completely** unrelated.

There is only one reference (that I am aware of) in Phantasmagoria 2 to the first Phantasmagoria, and it's extremely minor and has zero effect on the plot. Basically just a "chuckle" for the players of the first one. Other than that, one actor from the first Phantasmagoria makes a brief appearance in Phantasmagoria 2, but is *not* playing the same character.

Should work fine on XP, I ran it on Windows 98 and Windows 2000.

reply

Hiya. Yeah actually I have seen a bit of Phantasmagoria 2 (screen shots), still *really* want a copy though as I love these kind of FMV adventures. Still, would have preferred a proper sequel to the first. One question I did have however is were there 2 versions released in the US? Thing is, the BBFC cut scenes from the UK version (still rated 18 though) and I read that there was both an M and a PG-13 version released in the US. I will get the game from e-bay eventually, since I really don't want the UK version since it's cut, although I want to make sure I have the fully uncensored version, since a PG-13 version would surely be even worse than a UK 18 one! Anyone have any information about this? Or any other (English language) versions that might be uncut, like Canadian or something?

I have both games, and I play them sometimes still; they are fantastic and amoung the best adventure games ever... Although I like the Gabriel Knight games better, this is still a must!

What shall it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, but loses his own soul?

reply

I have tried to upload both Phantasmagoria games onto my new computers and I cannot get them to work. Even my Gabriel Knight games won't even play and I love all of these games. You have no idea how many hours of my life have been spent on these games and because we got some new computers in our house (the old ones that the games would play on weren't any good anymore so we had to throw them out)the new ones won't even let me get them on the computer. During the installation it gets to where it checks the hard drive and then stops the whole installation process and says something like "Integer is not divided by zero." If anybody has any suggestions they would be much appreciated. I'm dying to play these games again and its killing me that I can't.

reply

Phantasmagoria was really a ground breaking and wonderful game when it came out. I'd really like to get it and play it all again. Like a previous poster said, these kind of "filmed" adventure games are really great, I used to love them and it would be a very nice trip down to the nostalgic road to play these fine titles again. Under a Killing Moon was probably my favorite though as I enjoyed the humor baked in the project, but I do remember Phantasmagoria scaring the living hell out of me on numerous occasions. I might have to order them all again and play them through, and try that Gabriel Knight game as well. If my memory serves me correct it had something to do with werewolves, yes?

Also I'm a bit concerned it won't work on XP, like the poster above said, getting some errors or so wouldn't seem too shocking being that they've changed the whole Windows layout and coding or whatever. Help on that issue whether they'd work or not would be appreciated.

reply

I loved that game ) I mean it has this dirty spirit, aside from some dull acting. The Under The Killing Moon, which came out later, I think, was a major progress in that live acting games area, but still, Phantasmagoria was ok )

reply

Uh I totally forgot about Under a killing moon, oh god, what a great game, really and the speech was wonderfull, expecially the detective voice.

reply

Actually there's a scene in P2 where Curtis, the protagonist, receives a postcard about a new book called "Coping with Loss" which was written by Adrienne Delaney. One would presume it was written after her ordeal.

So it takes place in the same universe, but that's pretty much it. I heard on some Youtube video that Phantasmagoria was intended to be an anthology series. Like "The Twillight Zone" or "Alfred Hitchcock Presents"

I was obsessed with this game when I was 10 or 11, and I still play it....
I really want to know more about the actors... Especially David Homb, who played Don... Anyone know anything?

Love this game!
