Great Movie

Saw this years ago and then again a few days ago and loved it both times. Amazing how spot on this pre-realty world this story was. Some nobody guy who works in a video store is famous for no other reason than he is put on tv and suddenly he has fans, money and fame, and his and his families private life is decimated. This seemingly is the price he has to pay.

The difference between NOW and then is that now people who go onto these shows are pretty aware that they are selling their souls and there is a big price. "Ed" on the other had seemed pretty clueless and was exploited to the full extent. He sold his soul but didn't know he was selling it.

Ellen DeGeneres was great in the role of producer who had to sell this idea to save her network and jobs of everyone. But when it became a circus she was heartbroken over what she'd created and how it destroyed Ed's life.

Interesting that now reality tv is the big thing & video stores are gone.
