Well, for the one person that'll come here in three years...

This is one of the most horrifying movies I've ever seen. It begins with a very strange technique. Almost a documentary feel to it and a lot of breaking of the fourth wall. I was still enjoying it for the setting but I was afraid the entire movie was going to be them telling and not showing. But it does get into the showing aspect of film making and when it does it is extremely affecting. It becomes literally hellish and the fly-on-the-wall feel of the film creates a sharply unsettling (in that spot-on dramatic way) disclosure of real event. Frankly, the nature of the entire film ends up encompassing a story which seems medieval to the core. That it was 1968 in Mexico makes it that much more disturbing.

Took me two years, but anyway...
The way I see it, religion is not to be blamed for this one. It's a double edged sword, and this time said weapon was not used for protection, but for evil. Loved this movie.
