'Retarded Slave'

I just watched this movie for the first time, so this may already have come up..

Does anybody else think that Jiff, the brother, was purposefully the "retarded slave" role that Kit was asking for earlier in the movie? He more or less acts retarded and is constantly bossed around.

It's not particularly meaningful either way, but I did find it kinda notable.

I've watched this movie many, many times (it's one of my favorites) and I had never thought of that.

Great observation! There are a lot of jokes within jokes in this movie... one example being when Bowfinger says "Did you know that Tom Cruise didn't know he was in that vampire movie until two years later?"

On the surface, the joke is funny because... how would you not know you're in a vampire movie?

But on another level it's hilarious because, were it true, it'd imply that Tom Cruise really thinks he's a vampire.

And yet on a third level it's absolutely hysterical because Steve Martin, through the inference that Kit is more or less Tom Cruise, basically was outing Tom Cruise as a paranoid scientologist 4-5 YEARS before the media knew.
