Anne Heche + Bowfinger II

Bowfinger: "Did you sleep with the cameraman?"
Daisy: "So what????"
Bowfinger: "I never thought about it that way!"

Daisy's character is based on Anne Heche who was sleeping with Steve Martin when he was the most popular movie, TV and solo comedy star in America, while she was almost completely unknown.

At the end of Bowfinger, Daisy, who obviously sleeps with anybody who can help her get ahead, introduces her new "friend, a powerful Hollywood lesbian.

In real life, Anne [aka Daisy] literally "picked up" Ellen DeGeneres at an Academy Awards ceremony, conveniently, a couple of weeks before Ellen announced she was gay on her TV show. At the time, it was the most highly promoted "secret" in America. Everyone waited with baited breath for the "puppy" episode. Thus Ellen became infamous, got the cover of TIME magazine, and Anne tagged along for the ride as part of the most famous lesbian couple on Earth. This, of course, did wonders for Anne's career, and she was shortly thereafter cast as a lead opposite Harrison Ford, which was a huge deal at the time.

Later, of course, Anne & Ellen broke up. Anne went back to men, and was later busted in Ojai wandering around on ecstasy looking for a space ship to take her to Heaven. She tried to cash in on that infamy and wrote a biography that blamed her eccentric behavior and he "alter-ego" Celestia on childhood abuse at the hands of her father.

All of this, of course, would make awesome fodder for "Bowfinger II".

Its very interesting to find out that Daisy was based on Anne Heche. Now that I think about it - and by virtue of your fine explanation - I can see the similarities.

Steve Martin is very clever and clearly an insightful and observant writer.

I love Bowfinger. :]

Maturity. The very staple of the IMDb message boards.
