A Real Bowfinger?

You know, as much as I enjoy good film, I realized that since the 90's there hasn't been really a director that would make guilty pleasure action films.

If you think about it the last true such film was probably True Lies. Made to be nothing but a hell of a good time that laughs in the faces of people who try to bring it down just because the story is terrible.

I'm craving this, suddenly. Any suggestions? Uwe Boll is the only person even attempting to make such films and he is flat-out awful. I suppose Live Free or Die Hard fit the category well, but Len Wiseman is more into slapping Matrix and Nosferatu together than actual action movies.

Are there any directors actively doing this? I guess Michael Bay, but his movies have such awful soundtracks I can't achieve maximum exhilaration.

Are you honestly saying the only thing wrong with Michael Bay movies are the soundtracks?

reply

Of course not. His films are poor, but I do think the soundtracks are the worst aspect of his films.

I'm just trying to think of people who even attempt to make good guilty pleasure action movies. And I'm coming up dry.

But if it was good, it wouldn't be a guilty pleasure would it? *cue dramatic music*

Stallone is making a film called "The Expendables," which features many classic action stars and is being touted as the first true action film in years.

Woah, The Island and The rock both had pretty decent soundtracks examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwwch7xMgMc

Bay is just a horrible director that needs to stop directing films and focus on action sequences, this is where he belongs. I've compiled a list of my top 100 tracks from soundtracks and my name is lincoln is in the top 15.

On his other movies (they all suck) I can't comment on the soundtracks but not all are bad since Bay isn't that involved in the music as other directors. Zimmer and Jablonsky are two great composers.
