Great movie but hate the dvd

Usually I watch movies on dvd/blu-ray. I haven't been to a theater in about 7 years so that means when I watch a movie at home on dvd, chances are it's the first time I'm watching it. I hate when they include a scene from the movie on the main menu. In this case it's the scene where he's crossing traffic, which would of been even funnier if I haven't seen it before the movie. I was sitting there watching the movie knowing to expect this scene. I hate when they do that.

I know precisely what you're talking about and agree 100%. It's such a bad idea to do that, they seem to assume that if you're watching the DVD that you've seen the film and it just isn't the case for many people.

"Mr. Treehorn treats objects like women, man."

reply

Well, it WAS in the trailer.

reply

That's irrelevant. Not everyone sees the trailers. In my case, I avoid them outright for movies I know I'm going to want to see.

I agree with the OP. There's a movie I have been wanting to show to my friend for several years. Once we got around to it, the title screen video had major spoilers in it. It was incredibly disappointing.

reply

Showing a funny clip over the DVD menu can hardly be described as a 'spoiler'.

reply

How do you know? It depends on the scene. Besides, when they're out of context, they're not nearly as funny. Then, when they do show up, you've already seen it.

reply

In context or out of context, it's funny.

So aside from that, how'd you like the movie? It's one of my favs.

You must have left movie theaters very disappointed lots of times, because you went in to see a movie you thought was going to be good, but discovered how bad it actually was, because you refused to watch the trailer for it, who could had saved you from that experience.

reply

But trailers are a terrible indicator of whether a movie is going to be worth watching (and doubly so for comedies)

Out of context it's just some idiot. What part of

when they're out of context, they're not nearly as funny, then, when they do show up, you've already seen it

does this person not understand? Context matters in comedy, usually A LOT, and obviously in the case of the freeway scene it's funnier if you understand the personalities of the characters.

On this topic of DVD menus: what I get sick of is drawn out "creative" animation going from one option to another. Even though it's only a few seconds, it is infuriating to me! I just want to go to a different scene or change the audio. I don't want to watch ten seconds of bad computer graphics by someone who thought it would make the DVD better somehow.
