Why is this only at 6.4?

8 from me. So much well executed fun here! Love the idea, performances, jokes and OST!

8 is what I gave it but bumped it up cuz of the haters who never saw it giving it a 1.

Bowfinger is a great movie. Should be at least an 8.2 My opinion is that this movie upset a lot of Scientologists and their followers. They most likely came on here to give it low ratings on purpose. Just like anti-Scientologists did for Battlefield Earth.

Most critics gave it a 7 or higher, which is about right. I was also surprised to see it at 6 point something, I could see why though, the cult subplot had way too much screen time and should have downplayed a bit. Most of the comedic gold was from them mocking Hollywood movie making procedures and seeing them do a cheap homemade movie like we've all done with no budget. That's where the laughs came from - them making the movie. The cult stuff slows it down and drags out the runtime.

Had they taken some of that out and had an 85-90 minute movie I think it would have a higher score.

I watched it again a week or two back and... I guess the times I watched it in the past was just a warm-up for my funny bone because it was killing me that last time. It's not the first Steve Martin movie to do that for me so maybe that's what this is: people thinking once is enough.

Just rewatched this movie last night and I hadn't seen it since 1999 or 2000. It's a decent movie, but nothing that had me in stitches. I laughed out loud only once, enjoyed the movie overall, but it definitely wouldn't make my list of top comedies. For me, it lacks that "rewatchable" value that comes along with truly great comedies.

6/10 for me.

This movie is WAY underrated. Murphy has NEVER been funnier. 10!
