Does anyone else feel that Aimee and Jaguar should be dubbed in English, and of course other languages for those that don't speak German or English. I don't usually go for the dubbed movies but it seems there is alot missing in the subs. After catching most of the movie on cable I purchased the DVD. I have watched it enough times that I can now pay closer attention to the superb acting and not the subtitles. Still,everytime I watch it I see something that I didn't see before. I also have the book and where it is a little too historical and factual for my taste, it did help me to understand the movie better. How many people have missed out on this great peice of cinema only because they didn't want to "read" a movie?

I don't like films dubbed into any language.
Nothing is better than hearing the original actors dialogue, intonations, etc.
It's not hard to follow it reading subtitles- all it takes is a little training...
Well, personally, I think that Maria Schrader (Felice) acts so expressively with her voice (and her eyes), so it would be a CRIME to dub her.
Not to mention how sexy and sweet she sounds...
I don't understand German very well, but I love how the language sounds.

I agree. I can really notice a difference in the phrases that are spoken compared to the subtitles shown, but the acting is so impressive in this movie that I feel it would be absolutely criminal to dub the voices of these actors. I actually find that now that I've seen the movie a few times I turn off the subtitles completely just so I can pay attention to the gestures, expressions, and vocal intonations. It's just as amazing, even though I don't speak German. Maria Schrader is no less than amazing.

that is a cool trick ... once you get to know a movie well. I should try it sometime to see how it shapes my comprehension or appreciation.

I come from Germany and have to say, that to dub a film in a different language is a crime! The Germans do that with every single non-german film and it is so annoying and stupid! If the people wouldn´t be SO lazy and learn how to read and watch a movie at the same time it would make things so much easier. For sure, the subtitles sometimes can´t tell you everything in one specific scene, but it is much more intelligent than to dub! And even the dubbed lines for the scences wouldn´t tell you the actual translation of all words - thats how I experienced it - its never the same.

Yes! Subtitles are a very useful tool if one's learning a foreign language. I actually appreciated the fact I could listen to the original dialog and pick up things on my own and check against the translated text.

I agree to some point, that the dubbing in germany sucks. I have no problem watching english spoken movies in the original language without subtitles. I taught myself how to speak english when I was 15 years old by reading english books and checking every word in a dictionary. It took me like 6 months to read one.

BUT, and here's what I think about dubbing in general; I think it's a good thing that the movies and TV shows are being dubbed, since not everyone speaks english. My parents can't speak english, and they don't want to "read" a movie.

I can't stand it when a film gets dubbed. It really irritates me because you see the actors' lips moving but it doesn't synch up to the audio. I always prefer watching the movie in it's original language. I've never had a problem with subtitles, in fact I like 'em because it allows me to watch all the awesome foreign films, like Aimee and Jaguar.

I agree with the posters that said that you didn't need subs to understand what was going on in this film. Both actresses deliver such powerful performances that all you need to do is read their facial expressions and body language. :-)

I speak Spanish and English and subtitles don't do anything but confuse us. The translations will never be the same to what is really felt at that moment. I have watched Aimee & Jaguar ALOT of times and think that it is a GREAT movie and should never be dubbed because we would never get the real feel for the film. I now live in Berlin and have had a great experience of just walking by the Hotel am Zoo, and knowing that this was the place that Felice hung out, made it all seem so real.

wow lucky, mullyvc.
its a hard one and i considered this also when watching the film but as well as hearing the actor's tone of voice, etc, its quite educational when watching the film without being dubbed. it is a shame when wanting to focus soley on whats going on in the film to have to read the subtitles but if u miss anything you can always rewind:p
as others said you do get a sense of the context more by hearing the original language, too.

I would agree with the idea that dubbing is not preferred. The voices don't sound right. I never have a problem reading and watching. I also enjoy hearing the language that is intended.

I recently saw a movie that took place in England and France in World War 2 (title escapes me at the moment). The point of sending this woman to France was her ability to speak French. However, the whole movie was in English. The French spoke English (not even accented) and the Germans spoke English. Really bad.

I usually don't like dubbing, it's very off-putting, but when I was watching this movie I thought that it could benefit from being dubbed as reading it detracted from it somewhat and seemed as if a lot was left out of the translation as well. Maybe if the dubbing was in English but from those with German accents...? But certainly it's great to hear their own voices.

dubbing will kill any movie. here in germany almost everything is dubbed and i can't watch any movie or tv show on tv anymore because it's all just bad.

I prefer subtitle to dubbing. However, as a film student I find dubbing helpful when I have to watch a foreign film for class because it allows me to critically view the film for elements which I would have otherwise missed.
