I've watched quite a number of lesbian movies, but they don't compare to this. It's multi-layered, complex, sensitive, passionate and intelligent ... Even if you ignore the lesbian theme, this movie is great by itself and is one of the best Holocaust movies ever. The acting, the cinematography, the score ...

This film is definitely a masterpiece. I like how you said it's good even if you ignore the lesbian theme; that means it proves that films about gays and lesbians truly can be quality and meaningful films, not trashy flicks that no one sees.
While this is one of the best, my two favorite lesbian films are "Tipping the Velvet" which is the best one I have ever seen, then "Fire" and then "Aimée & Jaguar" is the third.
Since you enjoyed this you will most likely be very impressed by the other two.

If you'd bothered to watch the DVD bonus features, you'd have learned that it had Lilly Wust's approval as an accurate depiction of her story. Of course, given your mentality, you probably don't believe the story--or the holocaust itself--is true.
I've no doubt that the Holocaust happened. But there is such a thing as Holosploitation - The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a classic example.
The lesbian aspect of this film is more for men to masturbate over than for any gay rights.

it was my least fav as a whole as i found most of it very boring, the only thing that really interested me about this movie was Felice especially & of course the love story between her and Lilly but beyond that it was extremely boring to watch but then again... your post was in 2009 & most of the movies i seen were 2009 and after as well
