favorite sketch?

My choice is a rather underrated one with die-hard fans, "Hot Pursuits" from the first season. This is the sketch where Ken Marino's criminal character rediculously seduces all authority trying to get him into trouble with the law: the female police officer, the judge, and the warden.

The best is when the judge (Lennon) questions Marino on the stand and asks, "how do you plead?" Marino, with his sleazy, Miami's most wanted look says, "...on my hands and knees...care to join me?" Then Lennon takes off his robe only for us to see that he's wearing lingerie underneath and turns off the light on the podium as it it was a scene taken from a soft-porn B-movie on Skinemax.

The narration is brilliant, and the cheesy soft-porn music (a song actually by the Boomtown Rats :) ) in the background adds even more depth to an already great sketch.

"....the sun goes down, but it gets hotter and hotter. HOT PURSUITS"

Oh man, It is so hard to pick a favorite sketch. It's always changing for me. The "Monkey Torture/Barry Lutz" skit had me laughing so hard all the time. But I'll say the "Ken Marino Death Montage" is a current favorite. It plays just like a real montage, and having Boyz 2 Men singing, "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday" was just genius. I can only hope that when the DVD's come out, all the original music is intact. I think that's what the hold up on them is.

The first "LeVon & Barry," or maybe "Sideways House Family."

And fantastic name, torgo367. "There is no way out of here. It'll be dark soon. There is no way out of here..."

Louie!!!!

Seriously, there have been very few moments where I have nearly wet myself. That sketch was one. For those who don't remember, it's where the Last Supper is interrupted by some random popular "catch-phrase" guy who wants to dip his balls in everything.

Jesus: "It's not that I don't like Louie, I love Louie. I love everybody! That's my thing, man!"

"It's just that, tonight I thought it'd just be the thirteen of us..."

"Judas? Judas, did you invite Louie?"

Classic.

One of my all-time favorites is "The Nutcracker...In a Tiny, Tiny Room"

I also like the one with Bobo the mime that lands the imaginary plane.

Doug is a great character, and the sketch with him and his dad is hilarious. "What are you gonna do, Dad, send me out to Grandma's so she can teach me pinochle and make me bland? I can't be locked away in a cage like some kind of Manimal."

I am particularly fond of the Mailman who delivers Tacos too...just because it's played so straight, and when the Mailbox walks away at the end...you can't help but laugh.

Oh oh, and the Italian guys who wanna go to the zoo to watch the monkey do it! But not the penguins, that's sick. Because "penguins ain't natural. They was man-made like the Incredible Hulk."

I'm eagerly awaiting the day "The State" comes to DVD! Best Sketch Comedy Show ever!

Tammy Wilkins: Notebook Artist is one of my underrated favorites.

Thomas Lennon as Tammy is golden.

Oh and the one where they do a play but make all the curse words non-curse words. When the old guy dies and Ken Marino is just like, "Poop! Poop!"

Two Hundred and Fourty Dollars worth of puddin'
Ah Yeah!

"You may be asking yourselves, Barry and LeVon where did you get two hundred and fourty dollars?"

"Shhhhhh"

"Ain't none of your concern."

God did i love this show. I bought skits and stickers a long time ago... some of my favorites that werent mentioned...

The one with the eating of muppets. That one rocked. (though if farscape was created at this point, i dont think D'Argo would like being eaten.

The justice league one was great "aquaman, you go... talk to some fish"

and the one where they recruited this little kid as a deep cover agent, and he told police/fbi that his parents were nazi's, his older sister was a columbian drug lord, and there's a big scary dragon in his basement.

And i'll leave with... Lt. Saul Bitterson, miraculous fetishist of the US Navy.

My favorites were "please Kill Tim" and the one where the pope comes to dinner and they're all getting their white clothes dirty.

To me, the most memorable skits were of course Doug "I'm outta heeere" and Louie "I wanna dip my balls in it"

But also, I thought the skit where Michael Ian Black is telling a guy that his girlfriend was dead and then saying she was a whore was priceless. "She's dead..... KIDDING! But seriously though, she's a whore..... KIDDING! No seriously, she's dead and she's a whore." The way he did that was hilarious! I still quote that to this day.

Also, there was a short skit of Lennon and the other guy from Reno 911 as the Inbred Brothers who would do stupid stuff (like set themselves on fire) and then say "What am I doin?" Classic.

God I loved this show so much in high school and it is so cool to see other state fans. I am just going by memory here since it has been about 12 years now but some of my favorites off the top of my had had to be Levon and Barry 240 dollars worth of pudding. The extreme monkey torture. The Ken Marino death montage. Anything involving Louie. The jew, the italian, and the red head gay was classic. The doug skits especially the one where he gets busted with pot and he tells the principle its oregano, and the principle says that is a lot of oregano, then doug says it better be i payed 120 bucks for it. That was great, I might of messed up the price though, it has been awhile. I love the skit where they go hang out at the little kids birthday party. Another simple but funny skit to me was when all the people drown in the pool from cramps after eating and not waiting 45 minutes lol. Basically everything they did was brilliance to me and I miss it ver much. Once again it is great to see other peoples love of this fine show.

I have four words: Cut The Sheep Dip!

I love Mind Match. Thomas Lennon's delivery is absolutely hilarious. Mouthing, "I'm sorry" when he clearly gets the answer wrong on purpose is fantastic. His utter confusion against Kevin Allison's over the top game show host is great.

Jesus and Louie is one that seems to get the most appreciation from non-fans. It's not as out there as some of the other sketches so it has a broader appeal. It is easily the most quotable sketch. "Baba Ganoush!" "Potato Kugel!" "I love everybody. That's my thing, man" "Are you Jesus of Nazareth? He just went that way."

reply

Man there are so many...
How about Porcupine racetrack, or that one where they all camp out in that one dudes house and they are leaning over the freezer fishing for fish sticks and then singing Kumbaya around a campire...

Does anyone know why this show ever got canceled?

6. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR MTV SHOW?

Contrary to rumor, The State WAS NOT cancelled by MTV. We decided to leave the network for many reasons, one of which was a desire to establish ourselves as an entity that exists apart from any particular employer or TV Network.
