I always thought Carla was her roommate from the first movie

and they just got a more famous actress to play her. But her roommate ("move your tired, ugly ass") from IKWYDLS is named Deb, and Brandy's character's name is Carla. Weird, should've just kept it the same character.

I always thought it was a new roommate. The first movie she was in a dorm room. In the second movie it was an apartment.

I agree with you! I never thought it was meant to be the same character. It even seems that Julie is in a different city as well from the first one.

Julie moved to a different school. The place she lives on the 2nd movie is clearly different looking than the other one...
