Ron Perlman

Ron Perlman as Collie Etragian - Tak Ah Lah!

reply

Very good performance, as usual :)

reply

I disagree, he did pretty good, but lacked that little extra.
I expected him to be harsher and filled with more sincere rage.
Vincent D'Onofrio from The Cell would have fit the role better in my opinion.

reply

I said very good, not perfect ;) It could've been better, but considering the rest of the movie and cast, he was way good enough.
Vincent d'oforio doean't physically fit the role, to my mind. Clancy brown does a little more, but neither would've done the trick for me. Personnaly I have noone in mind right now, so perlman's the closest 4 me :)

reply

Oh, I don't know. He could go from a friendly looking sort of guy to being a monster just like that. When he first comes onto the scene, he's not very threatening...but once he "finds" the pot in the car, he changes.

...the part where he sneezes blood all over the windshield stands out in my mind. It's like some of his brain shot out as well. And he just turns around and says "Aren't you going to say gensuheit?"

And THAT is where babies come from.

reply

Good point about when he finds the pot.

reply

I liked him too, everything else sucked ass, making him look even better lol.

reply

Ron Perlman has a way with comedy in some of his horror characters that is unique. Actually, he is more comedic in just about everything he does and I love to watch him. I really like Clancy Brown too and he can be humorous, but he is usually more serious. I don't think you could have gone wrong with either of them. However, I just like to watch them perform because you never quite know what to expect. Sometimes the movie sucks, but the acting can be good. Both actors have been good in everything they have been in, it is not their fault if the script is stupid.

reply

He (Perlman) SINGLEHANDEDLY SAVED ALIEN:RESURRECTION. There was NO OTHER reason to watch that movie. Whatsoever.

reply

Bah. Winona Ryder is cute in A:R. That's a reason.

reply

sure there was. the rest of the supporting cast: Michael Wincott, Dan Hedaya, Brad Dourif, Dominique Pinon, etc...
also, the production design was superb, and the cinematography was amazing! you can cut a thirty-second trailer from pretty much ANY shots in the film. i understand that style doesn't make a great film without substance Alien Resurrection had enough style for a dozen other mindless action films...

Yes, dancing, that's what makes an intimidating performance *rolls eyes*

Shatner at his worst doesn't chew scenery like this clown.

Awful, Awful, Awful actor in a horrible "film".

reply

Clancy Brown would have been much better, I think.

reply

Clancy Brown or David Morse

Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

reply

i thought perlamn was fantastic in this, seriously when he was replaced by the blond woman the movie took a total dive!

Thunderbirds Aren't Slow

reply

Personally, for me the book took a dive when you loose Collie.
Also I was seeing Glen Jacobs(WWEs Kane/See no Evil) for the role, but I love Ron Perlman's work

reply

I agree! John C. McGinley ( Dr. Cox from Scrubs) would have been PERFECT. He was the one I always saw in my head when reading the book. That big, creepy smile of his.

reply

Reading the book, I always pictured a guy who looked a little more like Jack Coleman (Noah Bennett on Heroes). He might've done well with the role, though he doesn't appear to be very big. Clancy Brown would've been good, too, but Perlman is one of my favorite actors. I haven't seen the movie yet, though. And
Tom Skerritt as Marinville seems like a good choice, but I always pictured Sam Elliot...

reply

I thought he was amazing in this.
He made the first half of the movie really exciting to watch and then the whole thing fell apart when they took him out of it.
Kind of sad.

reply

I thought he was great, but his 'transformation' was kind of lame, just some red lines on his face--you didn't have much sense of him 'swelling' and growing. And then he just left with David's mom and you never see him again--no sense of what happens. He MADE the book, and he was one of the best things in the movie.

No way! Ron Perlman, as always, never disappoints. Everything he's in he plays true to character beautifully.

For such a peculiar looking man, Ron does an amazing job with his characters!

I am so impressed with the man...look at Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy, Enemy at the Gates, Desparation, and his voicework in Afro Samurai...

All distinctly different, and he pulls them off.

reply

I agree, and he's always cast perfectly for the parts. Once I see him in the movie, I genuinely cannot imagine anyone else being able to pull it off. Did you know they were considering Vin Deisel for Hellboy at one point and DelToro REFUSED and DEMANDED Ron Perlman exclusively. It's easy to see why. Agreed, he's excellent at what he does.

Don't get me wrong! He's never disappointed me in any movie I have seen him in (so far). I just always notice that large noggin of his! hehe

reply

Huh. I'll have to notice next time because I never thought he had a large noggin. I think he has very pronounced features. It could be the makeup, but he is a very large man. Did you ever see him in City of Lost Children? (I think that was it -- not noggin related -- but did you know he was the only Enligh speaking actor on the entire set and the movie was in French and he has to learn his lines phoenetically? That's a marvelous actor).

He does seem to be a "tad" type cast "most" of the time, but I've seen him pull off a few sensitive roles. He's just incredible at what he does.

And,...I'll keep an eye out for his noggin!

Beauty & the Beast. :) Only seen the first half hour of this movie so far (sci fi channel--I refuse to spell it the way they do now) but this guy's the complete opposite of Vincent. Vincent would not approve of this guy at all.

reply

He was trying to channel Lee Marvin.

Oh God!!! I´d just bought the book like two days ago.
I´m like in the fifth chapter, just afther they meet the "Sheriff".
I don´t know why, but when I heard the description that Pete gave of him, I just though in Ron Perlman.

Its TRUE!!! I saw him raping Mary, killing Pete, inspecting the car. I though in Lou Ferrino too, but Ron was more like it. It is right now that I´d realize he actually played the role. ´Maybe it´s ovious, his size, his eyes, his look, made him perfect for this character. Oh my!!! How can I watch this...movie????
