Help for a newbie to this show

Okay, so I just discovered this show... grew up with cartoons like this and thought I knew (even if I hadn't seen) nearly all of them but never even heard of Saber Rider!

So, if I want to see as much of the series as possible, what do I need to track down? Are there DVD releases?

I'm assuming - since many talk of this show as a childhood memory, yet I've seen clips that are clearly "proper anime" violent - that this is another Voltron or Tekkaman like case where there's a Japanese original and a dubbed "import" version... is that correct? If so, are both versions available, and/or is one far preferable to the other for the best viewing experience?

I'm a huge 80's, classic cartoon and anime fan so this show really appeals to me, especially the art style, but I'm at a bit of a loss how to start watching it!

If any fans of the show can give some advice, I'd appreciate it! :)
