I recently got the DVD set and it is great!! Pretty much all of the classic skits are on it. There are 3 "Best of..." years 1977, 1978, 1979; 2 complete programs "The Prophesies of Hoges" and "An Evening With Hoges", then there are bonus individual skits all up totalling around 6 hours of material. For those of you who have the VHS tape "Best of the Paul Hogan Show" about 60% of the tapes contents are now on the DVD as well. (For those who must know the VHS is the only place where you will see the Sgt Donger "how it happened" skit, SuperDag, The Suburban People, PAL dogfood spoof, Rod Stewart and Bryan Ferry sendups)

However the DVD is great! Dont forget the video masters are now nearly 30 years old, so the quality does show it, but that's the beauty of analog 70's video. As far as I know the DVD is only available in Australia, and is All Regions, Pal encoded, and released by Sony Music

Greetings!

I will pay GOOD cash money for this DVD, if someone in Australia will touch base with me on it!

The funniest skit I remember from it, was "The Papal Olympics." The pope's krause (shepherd's crook), telescoped out, for the pole vault - he clears the bar, lands on the mat, and his miter (big pointy hat) NEVER comes off! The nuns and friars are then seen playing soccer, and the refs flag a foul. The nuns don't like the call, so they begin a fight by ganging up on, and beating up on, the friars AND the refs! In another scene, the pope and retinue look to be processing, as he swings a thurible (incense censer). He begins to spin with it, and then toss it like the hammer throw. As a friar runs up to mark where it lands, it explodes when it hits the ground, burning his clothes and leaving him (friar) in classic blackface! This skit was a RIOT!!!

Sadly, back in the early 80's (before cable TV in my neck of the woods in NC), the only way we could get it, was on the independent station out of the Raleigh/Durham market (and I lived near Charlotte), when the atmospherics were JUST right. If "The Papal Olympics" are included on this 'best of,' I'll SWIM to Australia (from Pittsburgh!) to get MY copy!!!

We used to get it on one of those UHF channels. Were you able to get a copy? I'd love to be able to see that show again. I was telling a friend of mine about it today and she never saw it. I came here to get some info...you know the rest!

The road goes ever on and on....

Wow this is still laugh out loud funny! I can't believe how prolific Hoges used to be, he played more characters in one episode than most Oz skit shows now have in their whole run!!! How hot was that Delvine Delaney?!!! Oh and bobmccanless yeah that scene is on it, still v funny, especially with the nun who looks like she's praying but then ends up diving off a 10 meter diving board!

As far as I'm aware, the footage on the "Best of" DVD's is the only footage remaining of the Paul Hogan show. Legend has it that Channel Nine threw out most of the master tapes during the mid 80's when cleaning out the tape library. Idiots!

We had The Paul Hogan show on TV in Britain in the early eighties. Don't know if its available over here yet...

I hope Paul Hogan's TV show appears on DVD up here in the US! I grew up in Sydney during the 70's and besides Benny Hill, we watched a lot of Hogan's show. That combination was amazing, perhaps the funniest TV programming on TV ever. One of the skits I remember is when Paul spoofed Chips but he played a plumber instead of a highway patrolman. Funny stuff! Still remember that big toothy Erik Estrada grin he gave, haha.

More of Paul Hogan's show on DVD please!!!

OHHH YEAH! I too remember that spoof. But instead of "CHiPs" it was called "DRiPs". He also did a spoof of Starsky and Hutch that was hilarious! I too would pay BIG BUCKS to have this show on DVD>

I remember that. David Soul had started a singing career and had a drippy song called "don't give up on us baby". Hogan and his mate arrested this old lady and she started saying "I give up! I give up!" Hogan's mate started singing "Don't give up on us baby" and Hogan got annoyed and cracked him over the skull.
