Does anyone remember a character from the show

who was like the bearded and soft spoken presenter of this nature/wild life show (like an Australian David Attenborough) who would be out in the forest talking reverently about a bird or snake or whatever but would then do something horrible to the animal in question, like kick it/smack it off a tree/throw it away?

Only remember seeing it once about 25 years ago but laughed myself silly
