And they cancelled this??? GTFO!

I remember when Legacy and The Magnificent Seven came on back to back in the late 1990's - two good historical shows that had action, drama, romance, interesting characters and storylines - the works. And they were both cancelled. (Legacy only made it to 14 episodes and ended on one of the most extreme cliffhangers I've ever had the misfortune to see.) I can hardly believe the ratings for a quality show like TMS were so dismal that it was cancelled within two seasons and yet something like the g-dam Simpsons, a cartoon (seriously?), and variations of Survivor lasted about twenty. That is bizarre to me. I must not share the common tastes of those hooked up to Nielsen - ever - because quite a few of the shows I've really enjoyed got cancelled within three seasons or less. The two aforementioned, Roswell, Mind Games, Sons and Daughters, Star-Crossed, V (the newer version), Firefly, Prey, to name a few and I can go even as far back as "James at 15" (1977). Certainly if I'd been old enough to remember the original Star Trek before the reruns, I'd add it to the list as well. In fact, I think I'll add it anyway.

This is why I don't get excited about new fall shows that sound good - because I know if they don't get freakin' 50 million viewers halfway through the first season and keep that amount forever, I might as well stop watching because these TV stations will cut a show before there is a resolution to the current plot on the show. It's the execs way of saying "thank you for watching but we really don't care" to the 2 million who were faithfully watching. If they care so little about finishing a story I've invested in because I'm only one of a "few" viewers then I don't care about any their new shows. That way I don't get burned by their corporate greed decisions. I'm going to read more books - which are completed stories, thank you very much. No chance of the second half of the book suddenly disappearing right out of your hands just because Barnes and Noble only sold 25 copies.

This rant doesn't include series that went further than three seasons but the characterization of certain principals got so messed up by the writers that the shows became a joke, but that's another topic. (Yes, that most definitely includes you, Scandal!)

I'm venting this because I've just finished the complete series of TMS and it's crazy that ended after season 2. In fact the way the last episode ended, I don't think they even finished season 2.

Is anyone else still bummed by this in 2016? Do you have any other shows that you feel this way about too?

Well said, sir! I appreciate your rant.

I have one word.....Firefly.

Don't forget that a lot of shows that are fortunate enough to craft an ending tend to be huge disappointments. Not in all cases, but I feel that most of the shows I've encountered who got to air long enough to have a definitive ending really, really are a letdown.

I just received my 5 disc set of TM7 as a jet bday gift hours before going to see the new one, so I can't wait to dive in. Love Michael Biehn and the theme is so iconic!

You are MOST DEFINITELY NOT the only one still bummed all these years later.

I actually had no idea this show even existed. I was familiar with the original film, but it wasn't until I had been searching VHS at thrift stores this past year that the film had three sequels, and a TV show. I found the Pilot movie on VHS, and at first thought it was some remake I never heard of. Researched it later and learned it was actually part of a TV series.

I can hardly believe the ratings for a quality show like TMS were so dismal that it was cancelled within two seasons and yet something like the g-dam Simpsons, a cartoon (seriously?), and variations of Survivor lasted about twenty.

In my opinion THE SIMPSONS during its prime had no equal. I'd say Seasons 3-9 were the Golden Age, and Seasons 10-14 were the Silver Age. I also own Season 15, 16 and 20, but they pale in comparison to earlier episodes. The movie was alright. I barely watch any of the newer episodes to be honest.

I'm surprised SURVIVOR is still going, too. Any interest I had in reality TV died off after that show's first Season.
