And sing so beautifully! I had no idea. I think both Alice Ghostley and Kaye Ballard were underused in this. They were both brilliant performers!

shareJulie and Alice became lifelong friends--when Julie had her Emmy-winning variety series in 1972-73, Alice was her first sidekick (sort of like Harvey Kormann was to Carol Burnett). Julie was playing in MY FAIR LADY while this was rehearsing and being broadcast and, since she was also playing on Broadway at the same time, Maggie Smith became great friends with both of them as well (in fact, when Maggie won her first Oscar for THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE, she was unable to attend the ceremony, and Alice picked up her Oscar for her).
