I really don't see what the *beep* problem is. I loved this movie and found it to be quite inspirational. I didn't think of Adams like a clown.

And really - What did the real Adams expect? A bit-by-bit autobiography of his life? I don't see a problem with the story being changed from IRL to be more compelling. It makes for a better viewing experience. It says that the movie is BASED on a true story. Anybody who isn't a god damn idiot is going to realize that the Patch Adams displayed in this movie MIGHT not be the Patch Adams displayed in real life. But I'll tell you one thing, they might be interested to look up the real Patch Adams after having watched this movie. I know I was compelled to.

As for Robin Williams donating money to a hospital, yeah I think Patch has a point there.

"I really don't see what the *beep* problem is."

This is usually said by a person who doesn't want to face an inner conflict.

"I didn't think of Adams like a clown."

And you can't understand how someone else could think of him as a clown?

"And really - What did the real Adams expect? A bit-by-bit autobiography of his life?"

Yyyyyeeeeaaaaaahhhhh?

"I don't see a problem with the story being changed from IRL to be more compelling. It makes for a better viewing experience."

Real > fake. If you have to fake it, fake it all the way through.

"Anybody who isn't a god damn idiot is going to realize that the Patch Adams displayed in this movie MIGHT not be the Patch Adams displayed in real life."

True. But idiots be plenty, and association is a powerful thing. And some people might just expect TRUTH from a story based on real life, and not slander and make believe. I mean, they potrayed him as a thief and a fraudelent doctor! More than enough reason to sue in my opinion, and not only in America but anywhere where this could have happened.

And they show Patch Adams stealing, lying, etc. and yet HE GRADUATES...so a bog problem could be..the producers are actually ENCOURAGING PATCH to behave the way that he DID! Why..? Becase then you can graduate from MEDICAL school! And show your bare buns to the bad dean who tried to get in your way!

I just watched this interview with the real Patch Adams.

While he does have some very insightful things to say - Honestly - The movie did a great job in just keeping the character portrayal simple and effective. And keeping his skewed views on feminism and gender roles out of it.

I got it on good authority, from Patch himself, that Mike Ferrell told him he's got two writers to make Patch Adams 2, which I guess would be closer to the real story, if anything's going to come of that remains to be seen.

Well given that adams was a trained doctor by 26, not a 40 year old former mental patient before starting any medical training, as depicted in the film, I wouldn't have been thrilled either.

"He was in the headlights as soon as he got out there and never looked like getting out of them."

This flick CAN be throughly enjoyed whether you believe the story or not, but still take it with a lot of salt, because of what has been said by Hunter Adams himself.

As always the case, the film has only a bare bones resemblance to real life events.

Its that man again!!

Fair point. I'm sure he also hated it because it's a pretty bad movie in addition.
