wow, that's well-thought-out.

reply

I think for Dean, Annie and the iron giant the voice actors would be great for a live action version

reply

Yeah, but it seems Dean & Annie are supposed to more like in their late 20's to early 30's, not tempting 50. They'd have been perfect back in 1998 when they voiced the characters though.

reply

Harry might return, he seems like a nice enough guy. I'd bet Eli would too. But Diesel and Aniston are A-list actors. It doesn't seem like they'd be humble enough to accept returning roles (especially after Diesel's thoughtless tweet). Naw, the movie is more wonderful then their bloated acting careers and guessable egos combined. Besides, I don't think Fanthom Events can afford them. You know, the part where people think they're gods.

reply

They already made a live action version. E.T.

But seriously, I'd be game for a live action but only if it were superb, microcosmic (no pun intended) storytelling. On another note, what if the Giant was biological? Terrible idea, sure, but just something to think about.

I was watching Eraser last night then saw this movie. One character, General Rogard from The Iron Giant looks so uncanny resemblance of the actor, Andy Romano, The Undersecretary character Daniel Harper from Eraser.

Nice choices, especially Alan Tudyk and Michael Ironside (I'm going to add them to my original options list!)! Good feedback, thanks!

Must leave THE IRON GIANT as is. As it stands it is a masterpiece for an animated film for all ages.It has a great message for young and old alike It has been done live action a few times before with ET and especially KING KONG . THE IRON GIANT has a certain innocence, naivety and charm that would suffer with all the CGI needed.

reply

I don't think The Iron Giant is a naĂ¯ve movie at all. At its heart, I think The Iron Giant's ultimate message underlines the great purity of truth that is Grace; the more difficult stance of individually choosing to abide within the simplicity of stewardship and its uncompromising ethical and empathetic responsibility toward all corresponding things -- which is an incredibly evolved philosophical maturity. In a way, the charming animation masks that depth. The tone and tactility of real environments and performances inherent to live-action could potentially imbue such profundities with more nuance to resonate.

This topic sort of explains the vein and intention I'm imagining:

we dont need a live action remake of great movies

it's not gonna be better anyway the film is damn near perfect and it holds up still so why remake it?

remake bad movies with potential or movies that have aged badly not great movies to cash in, that's what's so wrong about hollywood nowadays.

reply

I wanna see this become a reality because you just know white-37 is going to finally snap and dedicate his life stalking the eventual director with murderous intent. But not before making some hilarious fanboy drama on the internet first.
